So, I have Election Day off every cycle, which is both a blessing and a curse. I'd welcome the distraction. My wife took the day off and she's WAAAAAAY more stressed out than I am, so that's not great. We've been cleaning the house all morning but I'm going to take her somewhere with booze so we can sit outside and chill.

Her friend group is not helping each other with the stress, they are all freaking out.

She keeps asking how I am so calm and... 1) As discussed on here, I'm confident in the result and 2) I can't control any of what happens, so I'm not going to spend a ton of time freaking out about any of this.

With all that said, gonna start day drinking at some brewery or pub and have some gummies tonight. I'll check in on results a couple of times to see if there's any sign of a "wave" but I'm not gonna stare at MSNBC for 5 hours. Crazy making, that exercise.

Turds out there knocking on doors! I love it.

Last weekend I was bagging leaves and a Dem door knocker asked if my son was home. I said he’s in college, so she asked if he voted. For some reason she didn’t ask if my wife or I voted. I guess they had him on a list as a potential Dem voter and not us, so didn’t want ask? We are all registered Dem.

Our friends across the street have a kid attending UM. She registered to vote in Ann Arbor—smart move! Her vote here, other than in a potentially close Senate race, would be kind of wasted.

Last summer I was at an outdoor (free) downtown concert and the Dem running for my district for the CO House was glad-handing through the crowd and when she came to me she just looked up at me and walked away. I think I was profiled (white guy, trucker hat, beard, etc). Voted for her anyway of course.

If Kamala wins how quickly do Right Wing Never Trump grifters like The Lincoln Project slink back into the party?

Or do they think that "it's all mini Trump wannabes now" and keep grifting?

I don’t think the Lincoln Project guys have any love for the guys who genuflected to Trump and will fight to be his champion going forward so they’re not going anywhere.

If anything those guys and those like them might be useful idiots to hopefully keep the GOP fractured into its post-Trump schisms (assuming he loses).

It’s waaaaaaaay too early to discuss but if Trump loses and especially if he loses fairly convincingly there’s likely to be a Civil War within the Republican Party. He’s going to leave a power vacuum that’s gonna be insane.

Depends on what becomes of the repbulican party IF that comes to pass.

Whatever is people left who ID as republicans will have to have it out finally and decide what they are on the go forward as a party - the Romney/McCain wing (or what is left of it) vs the nazi wing. I happen to think the Romney/McCain wing is done for in the republican party, but, IF she wins, will be really curious about how this shakes out.

I feel like its a pretty solid bet to say they'll pick someone who ostensibly looks the part of the pre-Trump era candidate, the media will bend over backwards to hail their return to normalcy, they'll win 2028 and then go right back to trying to fuck everything up.

They will have to have it out finally and decide what they are on the go forward. I happen to think the Lincoln Project wing won't be able to reclaim it.
I don’t think they’re equipped to deal with a situation where they have to meet voters where they live. Their hundred difference stances on abortion prove this and their core electorate (male boomers) is going to start dying en masse soon.

It’s ironic if Dobbs ends up being the gift that keeps giving for Dems (and I don’t mean to make light bc I know it was, is and will continue to be horrible for women).

People like Ann Coulter, Tea Party R's and various Fox talking heads were calling people like Romney, McCain and Boehner "RINOs" before Trump even came on the R scene, so I think the schism will continue regardless of Trump's participation.

One good result is that, surprisingly, my dyed-in-the-wool Republican father declined to vote for the first election since he became a naturalized American in 1960-something. (It's not a vote for Kamala, but it's as close as he could come.)

Right. It'll be a Trump/authoritarian leaning type who is treated like a Romney/McCain.

Well, in another one of those anecdotal signs... The best man in my wedding is a lifelong Republican. Like, went to school down in South Carolina and fit right in with the good ole boys down there type of guy.

Despite that, he is one of the most generous and loyal friend in the world. And I've been able to have normal conversations about just about everything and we just let the differences roll off our backs. That kind of friend. Agree to disagree and truly mean it.

He just texted the high school friend group. "Well, fellas... Just voted a straight Democratic ticket for the first time in my life."

I'm pretty stunned. But I shouldn't be. And I think this is the kind of place a lot of Republicans are at now. Trump is a cancer.
