I think I posted this already, but he’ll do recess appointments to avoid Senate hearings and confirmation. I wonder if Gaetz is a bridge too far for this Senate. And if he isn't, then there's clearly no such thing.

Cmon man he won’t have to. No Republican is ever going to stand up to Trump again. Trump could nominate Ted Kaczynski as Secretary of Energy and he’d get every GOP vote. The Sybian wrote: Wed Nov 13, 2024 11:45 pmI think I posted this already, but he’ll do recess appointments to avoid Senate hearings and confirmation. Of all the appointments I think Gaetz is the least troublesome as far as how he will do the job. He's as anti-monopoly as anyone in the GOP. I just worry that there's so much blackmail against him that he'll be nothing but a puppet.Steve of phpBB wrote: Wed Nov 13, 2024 6:46 pmOn the other hand, thinking of Mike Lee getting passed over is putting a smile on my face. The Sybian wrote: Wed Nov 13, 2024 5:43 pmUsually the governor, but probably differs by state. And he’s an extreme Trump boot licker with absolutely no morals, who thrives on being a troll. Supposedly the Republicans in the House all hate him too, so maybe there’d be a shred of oversight, but not holding my breath.Gunpowder wrote: Thu Nov 14, 2024 11:03 amOf all the appointments I think Gaetz is the least troublesome as far as how he will do the job. Lots of talk right now about not releasing the Matt Gaetz ethics report. Gaetz has resigned from Congress because he was nominated for AG.

Re: We Doing This Shit Again? (Trump Admin Meltdown II)
I've been avoided reading any news since the election...(today I read the comics and the sports section in the Sunday paper).
But I did see somewhere that Gaetz has already resigned his congressional seat, as a way to forestall the release of the investigation of him being a sex creep with young girls.
And god damn...do the Senate Republicans have a chance to do the funniest thing ever. They won't, of course, because they are complete craven cowards, and spineless in the face of Trump, but shooting down the Gaetz nomination would be hilarious.

The House might, but I think only the Senate is part of the confirmation process and they won’t stand up to Trump on anything.

Truly worst case scenario unfolding. The country will be destroyed from the inside out. We will all suffer.

Or they’re bumbling nincompoops who trip over their own dicks until a blue wave at midterms. Who knows, but no need to expect worse case scenario.

Based on my last few predictions, obviously take this with a grain of salt. But for a kleptocracy to work at a high level, you need a strong leader with some degree of political talent and foresight, and the ability to keep everyone in line. Take Putin for example. Otherwise, they tend to topple into themselves because since everyone is out for themselves, they turn on each other. So instead of becoming something like Russia, we are more likely to turn into... I don't know. Pinochet-era Chile? Random Central American country in the 80s?
Makes me think of the game Junta.

And in those countries, we had United States involvement toppling regimes (legit or otherwise). Nowadays its Russia interfering with ours.L-Jam3 wrote: Mon Nov 18, 2024 10:25 am Based on my last few predictions, obviously take this with a grain of salt. Re: We Doing This Shit Again? (Trump Admin Meltdown II)
So best case scenario is Pinochet's Chile... that's uplifting. I don't disagree with you, I don't see Trump having the interest in doing the work to hold it all together, and I can totally see the shitbags he is putting in place turning on each other in a power struggle. I do see a lot of his henchmen trying to run a Putin-style kleptocracy and taking ownership of government resources for personal gain. "Hey, let's privatize Social Security and put my new financial planning firm in charge of that! I have no experience, but my commissions will only be in the Billions, so what could go wrong?"L-Jam3 wrote: Mon Nov 18, 2024 10:25 am Based on my last few predictions, obviously take this with a grain of salt.
