Re: OFFICIAL War on Christmas thread
I went into Home Depot yesterday, and the Halloween stuff was all gone and replaced with Christmas trees and huge inflatables.
Re: OFFICIAL War on Christmas thread
I don’t understand people who buy and put up Christmas trees so early. It will be dried out and dropping needles before Christmas.DaveInSeattle wrote: Mon Oct 23, 2023 10:45 pmI went into Home Depot yesterday, and the Halloween stuff was all gone and replaced with Christmas trees and huge inflatables.

I like to decorate in November, but yeah, the tree isn't bought until around T'giving.

SC just learned about fake trees.
One milkshake to bring all the boys to the yard and in the darkness bind them.
Re: OFFICIAL War on Christmas thread
SC still thinks of the fake trees as the metal ones that they sold back in his hey-day. Or the tinsel ones.

Annual fight here of whether the weekend after Thanksgiving is too early (which it is).Nonlinear FC wrote: Tue Oct 24, 2023 12:07 pm I like to decorate in November, but yeah, the tree isn't bought until around T'giving.

Same. Except last year we knew we'd be out of town that weekend, so we put them up the weekend before. It was awesome.tennbengal wrote: Tue Oct 24, 2023 12:23 pmWe always put our tree up and started house decorations day after Thanksgiving.mister d wrote: Tue Oct 24, 2023 12:19 pmAnnual fight here of whether the weekend after Thanksgiving is too early (which it is).Nonlinear FC wrote: Tue Oct 24, 2023 12:07 pm I like to decorate in November, but yeah, the tree isn't bought until around T'giving.

I mean, pretty lights during the shortest days of the year, I see no reason to delay that.

Re: OFFICIAL War on Christmas thread
To be clear, they aren’t selling live trees here yet, either. But I used to have a neighbor who put up his tree Thanksgiving weekend, and as I said, dried out and dropping needles before Christmas.Giff wrote: Tue Oct 24, 2023 12:37 pmSame. Re: OFFICIAL War on Christmas thread
As a kid we always had a real tree and put it up around December 1. I remember putting an aspirin in the tree stand with the water but I have no idea what that was supposed to do.
I would like expensive whiskey.

We bought a fake tree in 2020. Daughter was getting really down during the lockdown/home school era and she was asking. We put it up, along with other lights and crap, a couple days before Thanksgiving as we always host Thanksgiving and it does make the house look festive.

Re: OFFICIAL War on Christmas thread
when we moved to Buf and got our house ~5 years ago my aunt gave me their old artificial tree, but last year it sorta (did) fell apart. It was all easy and good last January to say fuck it, drag the carcass out to the garage, and say "yeah next year we'll get a real tree, that's fine" but now it's November and the day of reckoning approaches. I haven't bought a tree in...? 15 years at least. I am absolutely going to float the idea of a Charlie Brown tree this weekend.

Watching the Rockafeller tree lighting and Barry Manilow looks like Odo from DS9 in a bad wig.
Katherine McPhee looks pretty great, though.

Old Navy with a winter clothing commercial backed by Walking in a Winter Wonderland. Hmmm.
I noticed a Lowe’s commercial a couple of weeks ago where the closing splash screen was a bunch of panels showing items you could buy at Lowe’s and one of them was a Christmas tree.
Based on last year’s posts I’d expect the first unabashed Christmas ads next weekend.

I'm bracing to be inundated with Christmas ads taking the place of all the political ads during sporting events as soon as election day has passed

There’s a strong correlation between early xmas lights and trump/thin blue line flags.

Re: OFFICIAL War on Christmas thread
Put up our outdoor decorations today. At least a week earlier than normal, but the weather is pretty good today and we’re having a contractor in to do a glow up of our living room starting 12/1 so we’re going to be late putting up the tree and decorating inside.
