My wife works in healthcare billing and i haven't seen her since 745 or so. Given what I hear, we can't rule out she isn't responsible.
Jeez, way to go to bat!
I don’t have anything to add to this other than that I’ve stayed at that hotel many times, and it is massive with multiple entry/exit points, like a Vegas casino. Shooter had to know something to be at the right entrance at the right time. Also, it wasn’t me.
Oh shit, just saw it’s the Midtown Hilton, we stayed there last time we stayed over in NYC. Enormous hotel, over 2000 rooms and I think 47 floors. Lobby was constantly a madhouse. Nice planning by the shooter.

I'd call that close range. Walking past pretty slowly with only one poor bastard around that's gonna remember that one for a while. Was calm when it jammed though. Highly intent. I'd guess no to trained mercenary but most would have bailed job done at that point
I lean to the hit by a family member/ex/lover, because I can’t get past the shooter having to know that he was not staying at the hotel, that he would walk to the hotel, what direction he was coming from and when, and that he would be alone. I suppose there are other ways to get that information, but the likeliest is someone who knows him personally.
The alternate theory I’m kicking around was that the shooter was targeting the conference but not any particular person, and just planned to shoot the first guy in a suit he saw walking to the hotel. That would not require any inside knowledge. But I think if the investigation was going in the direction, someone would have dropped a hint by now.

Interesting day in our house.BCBS.jpg
I had three 25 year-old crowns break this year and/or need to be replaced - two new crowns and a dental implant this Friday (yay!). Blue Cross blue Shield just informed me they’re denying the claims, because “unnecessary”.
So… not surprised if it turns out to be a disgruntled customer who shot that guy. I’m not very gruntled, myself.

My wife just got confirmation last week that she has a small muscle tear in her rotator cuff. Fortunately, physical rehab and not surgery... for now, anyway (okay, her PT starts in late February because that's when she could finally get an appointment).

Isn’t that entire sequence of questions answered by “where is he staying”?

I've got to get on the exchange and buy insurance for the first time in my life. Anyone? Anyone? I've sorta tried and given up a couple times but I need to pull the trigger soon. Could use a broker but seems like those have gone away since the 2010s. Anyone?

You should contact your state’s affordable care act provider (in California it’s called Covered California, so maybe something like that.) they can walk you through the necessaries.
I'm floored he didn't feel the need for a security detail, you know as the CEO of a massive insurance company that deals in the rejection of life and death insurance claims every single day.
My wife, a marriage and family therapist, has been going through a year-long audit review with United. They are as shady with service providers as they are with patients. It feels like their goal is to either shake her down for a large sum (~$20K) or get her to quit their network so their clients can’t get help they need and don’t file claims. These dudes are evil.

Yeah, especially since the family said there were death threats.

Brokers still exist. My wife just gave the name of one in Florida to a friend. They still sell just about every plan, they just find the one that's best and usually there's no fee from you. I know she has some contacts in GA, so I can ask if she has a name/email/phone.

And I will tread lightly as I don't know keg at all and don't want to offend but should health insurance be paying for family and marriage therapy? Seems the answer is it depends on what you pay for. If it's in the policy then it's in the price and they should pay fairly. But can I buy insurance without that in exchange for a lesser premium? And how do I have any possible way to evaluate coverages? All they talk about is premiums and deductibles and copays but next to nothing about the coverages and exclusions and conditions precedent. They will definitely hold you to those policy terms even when you don't know, have no way to know and would expect that there is coverage.
Had Kaiser about 10 years ago when the wife had it through her job. I liked it a lot. But theyre kind of a outlier as they seem to have their own docs and facilities and what not. Kind of a hybrid insurer/provider. Anyway, I dont think you can use their docs when you switch insurance and weve now transitioned to new providers. Id hate to start over again but it was solid.
Kaiser tries to limit healthcare but a stern call to member services usually gets you what you want. Its a bit of hassle but it’s better than the other providers.

Yup her story is very similar to the “Ringing Phones” section towards the end of the article. She has negotiated them down about 50%. United told her she has exhausted her attempts to negotiate further. Her last options are to pay their penalty or go to arbitration in their kangaroo court. There’s a ton of similar stories on YouTube and Reddit. Some of the folks she’s reached out to online recommended she not pay a dime until she files a complaint with the state insurance commision after she goes through arbitration.

My friend just texted me a link to what looked like an article from the San Francisco Chronicle saying a second execution, this time the Aetna CEO. I clicked, and it was the meme black guy with a giant hog sitting in a bed.
Freaked me out if there was a second hit. Might be the edible though.

JFC if me and my friends were still texting the nonsense we were goosing each other with 20-25 years ago I'd probably need a stronger BP medication.

Everyone knows that he's just the sidekick of the most ethnically stereotyped duo of all time.
The real criminal is Mario Mangione! Unfortunately it is unclear which Castle he inhabits as there exist a series of pipes he uses to move to and fro...

Luigi Nicholas Mangione was the valedictorian of his 2016 prep school class at Gilman.
Yep!
Wow. Just, wow.
ETA - Gilman one of the well known prep schools in Baltimore. Boys only. Its campus backs up to the Friends School campus where my kids went - mine graduated HS in 2013 and 2020, what a weird small world.

McDonald's for real? Did he just not give a shit at all
If one were on the run, a mcdonald's is pretty innocuous and unlikely to raise suspicions except when the police appear to have known who they were after by then.

He has a cousin who Republican delegate to the state house of reps from district 42a - Baltimore county as well.
I am stunned. Easiest guess was he had an axe to grind from denial of coverage for shooter or someone in his family but holy hell, that guy came from MONEY. They could pay for anything.
