Ovi on a hot streak 5 goals over the last 2, leads the league in goals, 2nd in +/- (only behind line mate Dylan Strome).

and the knee-on-knee collision....hope that is just a bruise or something.

I mean, the Caps lose in OT to the Maple Leafs at home and set out on a 3 games in 4 nights road trip and they plunder-- beating CO 5-2, VGK 5-2 and Utah 6-2.

And, yeah, Ovi has been on fire. And it's not all goals from The Office. He scored at least 3 that I can recall on wristers in the run of play.

Just putting this here ... if the Rangers trade Kreider, I will never watch sports (professional on down to my kids games) ever again.

Bitch you can't even imagine. I don't even thing there's a reasonable second place in terms of players on my favorite teams I'm most attached to.

Flames and Sens on Amazon Prime tonight.

The Flames are somehow in the top 10 in the standings. Wolf has been spectacular in net.

The Rangers, who have looked miserable for like two weeks, somehow look even more miserable today.

Nah, they looked like shit before this too. Chytil going out exposed how terrible to "top two" centers have been all season and, aside from Fox and Schneider, the D have looked sometimes (Miller, Jones) or full-time (Trouba, Lindgren) awful. But today is somehow worse, either the room is a mess, Laviolette has lost them or something even worse is going on. Only surprising thing at this point is I haven't seen maybe try to pin the entire mess on the loss of Goodrow.

Sharks won both ends of a back-to-back against Seattle, with each of their teenagers getting multiple points. This is still a bad team of course, but they are fun, enthusiastic, and improving. So, I finally am starting to feel good about their future.

Aside from the stat line, how’s Wennberg looking*? I remain annoyed we didn’t go with him over the Reilly Smith trade both because he can (does) play center and wasting a valuable 2nd during UFA.

He’s a good dependable 2-way forward. Getting lots of minutes centering their 2nd/3rd line. Brings a calmness and maturity that they need, imho.

The washed out goal saved Jarry from surrendering a goal on the fourth shot of the game that he saw, which would have been the eighth time in his nine starts this season of giving up a goal within the first five SOGs. Unreal. As it was, he gave up a goal on the 12th Florida shot.

That's a Jacob Markstrom stat, notorious for giving up a softy early. During the 2022-23 season, he gave up a goal on his first shot faced EIGHT times!

Are we the new Tampa where other teams are furious we're escaping these bad contracts?

The guy who came back isn't even a zero necessarily. Former 1st who has been injured a lot but had solid D metrics last year. Potentially a real "3rd pair guy" if there's ever been one.

Well, as you noted, the main return in the trade is that the Ducks are eating Trouba’s entire contract, just like the Sharks did with Goodrow. Now, Drury needs to use that cap money wisely.

Amazing work by the Rangers to get rid of that contract, especially without retaining anything.

Will be interesting to see the Rangers' next moves. They have to re-sign Shesterkin, but this also allows them to add short term. Panarin is 33, clock is ticking.

Anahiem has a back line of Trouba and Gudas!

Starting to wonder when the soft tank will start in Detroit and they bring up some prospects to get their feet wet for next year.

When does Yzerman’s honeymoon end? He traded Jake Walman plus a 2nd round pick to San Jose for “future considerations”. (Meaning they took his contract off Detroit’s hands). Walman is now the best defenseman on the Sharks per all the metrics. Certainly one of the reasons for the Sharks’ improvement this season.

Probably after this season. Their moves in the offseason were mostly aimed at improving the defense/locking up the young stars. They accomplished one of those things.

Their stagnant results this year are not helped by having multiple contracts holding them back in the future (Tarasenko, Chiarot, Holl, Gustafsson under contract for next year; Compher and Copp beyond that). I think if they are looking to be outside the playoffs next season (his sixth as GM), things may turn.

The assumption on Rangers Twitter and possibly beyond was they were clearing space for Trouba and the Rangers fucked up by not taking Walman (and that 2nd, unless the Rangers were reimbursing that piece). I’m pretty ok how it worked out either way.

Goofball tourneys like that I either root for no Rangers to make it or just guys who could really use a good experience. Like if Kaapo shines as Finland's 3C that would be pretty cool (if not super weird that he has a bigger role in this than he does with his actual NHL team).
