Yeah? Every time I see the lad (no one is more of a “lad” than Palmer) he has the ball on his foot, which City could probably use a lot more of. Doku is effective when he’s allowed to be more creative; Grealish used to be before injuries and Pep shouting it out of him.

For such a wealthy club as City, there really is not a valid football reason for letting go such a quality young player as Palmer, is there?
They already had Foden, and probably didn't think Palmer would develop like he has.

The guy I don't understand them letting go of is Julian Alvarez. He played big minutes for City over the last few years, and they could certainly use him now.

And Palmer is now the "Most English Looking Mate" in the league, surpassing Anthony Gordon. They both look like extras in a WWI movie.

A guy of his caliber isn't going to be happy sitting or playing a complimentary role to Haaland and Pep doesn't like having unhappy players around. The weirder part was simply not replacing him, even with the Bobb injury coming before the window closed.

I mean, Chelsea certainly tries to get him the ball as much as possible, but he doesn't tend to hold onto it for too long. I checked stats and his touches/90 are lower than any of the other central mids Caicedo, Enzo, or Lavia. Granted, he's not a pure center mid, but he's more of that than anything else. He's a combo 10 and winger with a bit of striker in most games.

It's just numbers. Top teams load up on young players, but those guys quite often have a hard time beating out other talented players - young or not - for minutes. Top talent never wants to sit, so if those guys can't get regular 1st team minutes, they push to get out after a year or two. Chelsea got Palmer that way, but also lost Salah and KDB for the same reasons. (Lukaku too, although got him back later and had it not work out a second time)

Antonee Robinson played fantastically for Fulham today. Held his ground against Salah. Really wonder if Liverpool are going to make a run at him in the January Transfer Window (as rumored) to supplant the suddenly creaky Robbo.

My side of "Most English Looking Mates" in the EPL is very Newcastle-heavy, and we play a 4-3-2-1.

Marcus Rashford

Cole Palmer --- Elliott Anderson

Anthony Gordon --- Declan Rice --- Joe Willock

Lewis Hall --- Dan Burn --- Harry Maguire --- Kieran Trippier

While I'm having fun watching the super-Christmasy movie Die Hard, here's another starting 11 of the most English-sounding EPL names:

Will Lankshear

Jack Grealish --- Jonjo Shelvey

Harvey Barnes --- Sean Longstaff --- Will Smallbone --- Luke Butterfield

Alfie Dorrington --- Ben Chilwell --- Harrison Ashby

Wesley Foderingham

Both teams looked very mid-table. City is a train-wreck/dumpster fire at the moment.

Midfield is an absolute wreck. Ilkay is done, Bernardo seems to disappear and KDB has lost his mobility (which might be still be fine if Rodri were around). I’m wondering if Pep actually sticks around knowing there’s massive roster turnover necessary.

In the Cup today, Spurs-ManU should be fun.

The semifinals will be Liverpool, Arsenal, Newcastle, and one of those two. Pretty awesome quartet.

It's pretty astonishing. City just looks so lost out there.

And it can't be just because Rodri is out. There's still a ton of good players on that team, and one of the best managers ever. They should be able to figure it out.
