You guys are such pricks… I actually listened this morning, love the idea of treating long articles like a podcast, but the AI reader was way too slow, and intonation completely missed a few times, but overall a good experience and an interesting article. Could see this as a great book or movie.

Tommy Tuberville Still thinking Drake's Passage is the only other way around sounds about right. Not that he has fuck all of a clue that it's called Drake's Passage, of course.

It occurred to me later that maybe TT wants them to use the Straits of Magellan further to the north but only slightly less inhospitable, duh! Silly me! I'd have lost that Wager.

I don’t know much, but I’d have to think the majority of our fleet is in the Pacific or the Middle East. I’m guessing larger war ships can’t fit through the Canal anyways, but fuck do I know?Johnnie wrote: Wed Jan 08, 2025 2:12 pm Gotta love fucktards who don't understand military logistics.
I almost feel bad for these clowns, having to pretend that something absurd is important and logical because Trump spews some gibberish. Or… maybe he is some sort of genius distracting us with batshit crazy stuff so the news doesn’t talk about the horrible shit he is actually doing.

Recent Panama Canal widenings should mean that just about any ship (military, shipping or otherwise) should be able to pass through the canal. And if it can't it was designed with the understanding that it would never be able to.The Sybian wrote: Wed Jan 08, 2025 2:57 pmI don’t know much, but I’d have to think the majority of our fleet is in the Pacific or the Middle East. But yeah, these peoples brains are permanently broken. 95 percent of them couldn't have found Greenland on a map 10 years ago and now they want to send the military to invade it because their cult leader wants a permanent supply of ice and puffins.

Some aircraft Carriers can't fit - due to height of all things (yes I know how lock systems work) - but I'm sure if we all put our minds together we can figure out if there's a way to get whatever types of things Aircraft Carriers carry, from one aircraft carrier stationed in the Carribbean Sea to another aircraft carrier, 51 miles away, on the Pacific Ocean.brian wrote: Wed Jan 08, 2025 3:06 pm

My favorite Puffin story is that they were such a pain in the ass for the latest Star wars Trilogy around Luke's island that it was easier for Disney to CGI them into Porgs than to keep them out of shots.L-Jam3 wrote: Wed Jan 08, 2025 3:13 pmHey don’t knock it. We have 11 Carrier Strike Groups (out of 21 total worldwide) split between the east coast, west coast, and Japan. You don't need to let representative from Silicon Valley who said he's looking forward to working with Musk on efficiency (not a real governmental anything!) off the hook.@BernieSanders did the right thing. He cleared her nomination on August 6, but the Dems fumbled it.

It’s inexcusable and inexplicable that we did not prioritize confirming the NLRB appointees like we do federal judges and have ceded the Board two years before we needed to.

Re: Random Politics
That sentence is self-defeating. Federal judgeships are not going to be ceded in two years. They are lifetime appointments. And have far greater power than the NLRB. So if in fact it was a choice between prioritizing federal judgeships and NLRB appointments, the clear choice was the federal bench.DSafetyGuy wrote: Thu Jan 09, 2025 11:08 am He also cited these things:

Re: Random Politics
That's why I said "if". I doubt it's a binary choice, but time and attention and energy are finite quantities, and there are other things we all want done. I'm guessing that if the Dems had made the NLRB a priority and something else got left behind, we'd see the exact same article written about that other thing.
