Yeah, it was fine. Helps when both the main character and main villain work. Felt like Christmas was shoe-horned into it, though (just needed an excuse for a busy travel day).

That's a Christmas movie just like Die Hard and Lethal Weapon are... Adjacent.

I like Bateman as a villain and the main protagonist held his own. It had the same running tension as Speed... Not as good, obviously, but definitely entertaining and well executed. Mostly...

Dude in the back of the ambulance has the wherewithal and marksmanship to yeet that guy from distance with a rifle? That shit is very difficult. Also, in that same run, it made zero sense for the guy to be in his snipermobile and then all of a sudden he's magically out of the van and stalking the wife in the garage. That sequence didn't make any sense from a continuity standpoint.

Also also, earlier on, when the lead guy sees his wife on the concourse and the assassin guy paints her forehead... Again, where/how is he magically transported inside the concourse? Is he in the van surveilling and then just, you know walks into some area in the airport with a sniper rifle case and takes up position?

Given the article Drugs posted that many of us read, this one certainly runs against the grain of movie dump for content's sake. It's definitely way better than I was expecting it to be.

The trailer grabbed my attention, and I usually roll my eyes at this type of movie, because I feel like I’ve seen it 100 times. Not sure what grabbed me, but I do wonder if I’d gave bothered watching the trailer if it wasn’t Bateman. Always liked him as an actor, but listening to Smartless made me love him.

Moderate budget ($47 million), made by DreamWorks, not Netflix, principal photography wrapped in January 2023. Amblin (Spielberg's production company) had a deal with Netflix to produce multiple movies for them. I have no idea why Netflix sat on it for so long (probably 18 months by the time post production was complete).

Yeah, that scene was where it got a little loose, but I excused it for the purposes of telling the story. How would the sniper know where the guy and his wife were going to be such that he could point a rifle at her? And why would he use a laser sight?

Similarly, I doubt you can just pull up a baggage loader to a moving plane without causing problems. But then, I don't expect my action movies to have perfect logic.
And yes, Bateman was great as always.

Carry On was ehhhhhh. Definitely agree with what was already posted in the spoilers, but this is what pissed me off the most:

The cargo area of a plane does not have that much space plus an airtight phone both sized container and a 9 foot 'ceiling'.

There would also be no way they'd let that plane take off either. Even if he sets the nerve agent off, it's outside and away from the terminals. You can manage getting those people off the plane.

Also, he switched the cases? So that means he could've just taken the mechanism that would prevented the guy from arming it?

Just a mess all around.

And he really could've shot Bateman's character in the head in the bathroom.

I need to make an All-Underrated Movies list, and would be interested in the lists of others here. Obviously, this is stupidly subjective.

A few of my favorites that have percolated into my mind recently that might make my top 10 in this category:

True Romance
Queen & Slim
The Castle
The Big Blue

Re-watching Conclave on the TV. And, wow, it is so profoundly less intense than when I saw it in a theater. Not sure why exactly. But I was asking my wife, and she said it just feels a lot less intimate. Which I think is spot on.

I'd always thought it was the big action films I wanted to prioritize seeing in a theater. But this has me rethinking that assumption.

Just watched Carry-On and enjoyed it. But why wouldn’t you go to someone higher up as soon as you realized your girlfriend isn’t in immediate danger?

I thought he felt he had to handle it himself to keep Bateman from just gassing the entire airport. But Bateman’s character had expressed a desire to not die himself for the job, so I’m not sure.

One of the things I want to do more this year is watch movies. At least 2-3 a week. Decided to start with one I’m surprised I’d never seen - Baby Driver. I think I never watched it cause of all the Spacey stuff, but since it’s on Netflix I thought I’d finally do it. Really enjoyed it and hate it took me this long to experience it.

Watched last night on the recs here, fun movie. Funny seeing Hamm as a bad ass killer. I’m joining you on watching more movies. I get so caught up in streaming shows, I rarely watch movies, probably less than 10 a year.

Noooo. I love twist endings and mystery/thriller stuff. It's just kind of meta-spoilery to be watching a movie and know "Ok, when's the twist coming?"

Like, the same shit happened with me when I was younger with The Usual Suspects. I saw the Jay Z music video City is Mine and was like, "Oh, so that's how the movie ends." And I didn't actually watch the movie for another decade plus until I forgot it was the basis for the music video. Then I was like "Oh, snap."

Nosferatu was enjoyable but not groundbreaking. Doesn't terribly diverge from Coppola's version and a cynic would ask why it even needed to be made. The production and cast are fantastic though.

Best movie I've watched this year so far has been Hundreds of Beavers (2022). Twist up a hog's leg and pour 4 fingers of bourbon on a snowy night for a proper viewing.
