I don't think there's enough safety equipment you could give me to ride a bike downhill in snow.

I mean... Maybe it's because I still ski and fall from time to time. Not that big of a deal to fall in snow, as long as you're not bombing the hill.

I imagine this is right. Falling is pretty abnormal at this age and I can vividly remember the last time I did* and the last time I almost did**.

* Over the summer coaching 10U during fielding drills, I was at 1B, kids were throwing from 3B with the sun right behind them but also with a large tree. Throws were coming in and out of sun/tree the whole time but one never came out and I tried to bail at the last second and caught either the bag or my other foot. Pro was I didn't eat a softball, first con was I went down weirdly and second con it was my own goddamn kid who made that throw. Uninjured but could easily see how old people get injured simply by falling down.

** Making a pretty sweet, across-the-body running catch in the deep LCF/LF gap but the final lunge to get the ball put me in a swim move that I still have no idea how I recovered from. Absolutely ruined everything; a strong 8+ catch was lost to the "holy shit, we thought you were going down" discussion from both teams on the way in.

this morning was pretty sweet! But I think Atlanta is going to get 28-3’d by this storm. Ice and rain the rest of the way, and then it will all freeze over. And no, nothing is plowed. They left Kyle Shanahan in charge of doing that.

Does she see out of both eyes? I’d ski again in a heartbeat if I didn’t have that issue/concern.

But skiing at 85 is damned impressive.

Supposed to be an unprecedented snow storm in Houston starting later tonight or tomorrow morning early. I have my doubts, but it’d be cool to see not only a good shower, but it sticking for a couple days.

Today’s marks my fifth day skiing so far this season. I went ahead and bought skis in December and god was it a good decision. Hoping to get ten days this winter. The next month I won’t get many chances because it’s the school holiday period so the places are packed. Will go tomorrow and then maybe take a day next week. It’s so fucking great. I’ve got five different stations inside of 70 minutes from the house.

According to my phone tracker I hit 50mph at one point yesterday which is a new record for me. The skis i bought are long turn, so I’m working on carving at speed. I don’t like skiing off-piste because I’m not good enough yet and I don’t want to injure myself. But hauling ass down steep slopes is great fun. My friend I skied with yesterday is an expert, so I really had to push myself to keep up. This morning will be much lower key.

I had a rough fall two years ago and thought I blew out both knees. Turns out I didn't, but it's much harder to go fast now. Now my brain doesn't allow my body to chase my all time top speed (60.2 mph).

These are all on rentals, does the equipment make that big of a difference?

It is. 45+ feels fast af. 50+ feels dangerous, 55 feels like you need to stop, and 60 feels like you're gonna die.

I use an app called sports tracker. I’ll use my garmin sometimes too, but sports tracker gives me the speed profile like this. Here’s my morning yesterday. The app says I hit 64 but I don’t believe it was that fast. We were down a really steep black and had to have speed to make an uphill transition at the bottom so best to just point and go. Yes, it was terrifying in the moment. You can tell by my normal top speeds that I prefer to carve and not just blast. I actually had a faster overall descent today on my last run, but only hit 45max. It was more fun though, honestly.
