Goalie mentality. That save in a losing effort. You're not getting a freebie on my fucking goal. Love it.

It’s a sad day when your team lost to the Sharks.

They are looking better though. Celebrini has been good, almost a point a game. Get another 1st overall pick and get Schaeffer, the defenseman.

Yes, at least Sharks’ fans have hope for our future. Just not the present,

Flames stole this trade. KUzmenko is very one dimensional, will be in Torts doghouse fast and Pellitier has never reached his potential, a tweener between NHL and AHL, recently passed waivers. Farabee by far the best player in the deal. Flames somehow are pushing for a playoff spot when most pre-season predictions was the lottery. This team has earned itself a shot in the arm, and the GM gave it to them without giving up any top prospects, first round picks and didn't take on any older rentals in the process either.

Some real Dry Island Lite, just get these guys out vibes here, no? Clearly bailing on not just the Farabee contract, but seemingly Frost too given they only got a 2nd, one guy who is a one-dimensional rental and the other who was on waivers.

Not NHL, but at the Grenoble v Bordeaux hockey tonight. Grenoble are top of the table, Bordeaux are third. In a marvelous case of nominative determinism, the Bordeaux goalie’s last name is Papillon, butterfly in French.

The Grenoble team is called Les Breulers des Loups. Which translates roughly to the flames from wolves, which is pretty great. They’ve got mercy that has the slogan ‘le feu sacré’ which is the sacred fire.

In real hockey news NHL announced YUGE increases to the cap the next three years. Will be $114.5M by 27-28. McDavid’s extension gonna be hilarious.

I’m not losing any sleep over it or clutching any pearls but I don’t agree with it. You want to boo Trump, fuck yeah do it. I’ll do it with and if I got a bucket of tomatoes and he’s in distance I’ll chuck them with you.

But Trump does not = America. No more than Trudeau = Canada. The majority of Americans didn’t vote for him and at least roughly half actively despise him.

Yeah, i am with Trav on this. The US has booed other anthems before events. And it is more than just tariffs. The orange fuck threatened to make Canada the 51st state.

Maybe I give people enough credit to understand context that the fans are in fact booing Trump, and not them personally?

ETA: The San Jose Sharks host the Montreal Canadians tomorrow. Even though the Bay Area is a liberal bastion, the average sports attendee is certainly more conservative and there is always a certain chucklehead contingent at any game. So, I'm cringing about the thought of what might happen during the Canadian anthem tomorrow.

How long does the new coach bounce normally last? Wings dropped their first under McLellan, but have won four straight since.
Now seven after scoring four goals in the first eight minutes and coasting past the Kraken, but against a mostly weak schedule (WAS at home and WPG on the road are the highlights). Obviously, regression will come eventually, but if they're not careful, they could end up on the fringes of the playoffs again.
The Wings now have a second seven-game win streak under McLellan and are 15-4-1 since switching coaches (Lalonde was 13-17-4). Last four have come on the western Canada-plus-one trip (EDM, CGY, VAN, SEA).

Dylan Guenther’s OT goal tonight was beautiful.

It’s his second fifth-minute-of-OT goal this week, and (at least) his third of the season.

Ovi with another goal in last night's win over the Flyers. 15 to tie, 16 to break the record.

Tied an obscure goal scoring record in doing so.. Tied Mario Lemieux for the most 4 game goal scoring streaks at 34. Gretzky is the only other guy with 30.

Overall, as much as I was meh on them in chunks of January, they are absolutely back to playing quality hockey. Rolling with 3 productive lines and a solid workman 4th line. Plus a lot of stability in the D pairings. Knock on wood, this team isn't being ravaged by injuries. Which, Ovi aside, says a lot about some of the older guys that were hanging on the last few years.

I loved Backstrom and Oshie, but, man... It was past time to go.

Names can fool you. Barkov and Granlund are Finnish. Zibanejad and Raymond are Swedes.

eta: The Athletic has a good article today on how the Canadian team is stacked at forward and defense. But weak at goalie.
