There is another story kicking around that he is buying a $10-million house and is now becoming an "out of touch elitist" because he pals around with celebrities like John Legend and Chrissy Tiegen.

So, kind of like the Bill Simmons of politics.

I stumbled across Cocaine & Rhinestones and while the first season didn’t do much for me the second season about George Jones and Tammy Wynette was great.

Lovett was engaged to Ronan Farrow at one point and his Lovett or Leave It podcast is nothing but Hollywood types, so I agree there.

Favreau buying a $10 million house is sad. Like, way to look completely fucking elitest and out of touch.

I have to admit I didn’t think I was gonna like it but I decided to give it a shot because Daly and Bamford are great and damn is it hilarious. I seldom laugh out loud and catch myself doing so three or four times an episode.

Awesome new American tennis podcast with John Isner, Sam Querrey, Jack Sock and Steve Johnson called Nothing Major. They talk about life on tour, travel, playing the big 3. Short version: Novak is the easiest to play against, he lets you play until you miss. Federer just attacks you and Rafa bullies you.

I went and tried to watch a few of the actual episodes and... Yeah, that show is brutal. It's soooo sloooooooow.

There are a bunch of shows that I hate because it was the only option and as a latchkey kid trying to stay out of trouble after school, was kind of stuck in the house at times.

Having listened to a few more episodes (the one with Conan O'Brien is great), I can safely say I don't think I knew the backstory of Ben Cartwright having 3 sons by 3 different wives, all of whom died.

So...Ben Cartwright fucks...

I've listened to about 15 or more, a few observations:

* - Maria Bamford clearly tickles Gourley and Daly. Some of my favorite moments are when she drops a bomb on them and you can tell they are losing it on their end.

* - They make a pretty compelling case that for at least the first 7 or 8 episodes, the show is just throwing out one off pilots or something. The fact that there are very few (zero, really) through lines in those first dozen or so episodes is pretty wild.

* - It's also very funny that the show starts off by loosely basing each episode on a historical incident or person. And then... It just doesn't anymore.

* - Hilarious that they kill the women off and that there isn't a recurring female character so deep into S1.

* - Off topic a little, but if you haven't seen Daly on Conan doing his Dalton thing... YouTube that shit. It's hilarious.

How did he land them? That’s crazy! Did either of them know what they were getting into? I love Theo, but he is a bizarre Swamp person from the bayou and says some really bizarre shit. As far as I can tell, he is really a-political and seems oblivious to political news. The Pod Save guys called him out as a Right Wing Trumpbro because he didn’t push back on a guest (Roseanne Barr?) spreading lies. He clearly had no clue what she was talking about and uncomfortably laughed. Makes them lose credibility when they attack someone based on what a guest says when the host doesn’t know or care anything about the topic. They had never heard of Theo and labeled him a Trumpist.

So, catching a few segments on Pod Save and they interviewed a dude with a new podcast out that I subscribed to and it's quite good.

If you don't know the supremely racist and fucked origins of the NYPD (going back to the mid-1800s), Empire City from Wondery and Crooked Media is a pretty fascinating pod.

I'm in the middle of ep. 4 and I've already had my eyes opened to a number of bizarre and troubling item. (As a sample, at one point the Republicans in Albany were fed up with the Tammany Hall Democratic mayor and formed their own police force. So, for a short period of time, you had the Metropolitan Police Dept on the streets of New York clashing with the NYPD.)

So, not exactly new, but new to me... A USA Today(?) investigative journalism series called Cities. There are two seasons, one on illegal dump sites in Chicago (dating back to the 90s) and S2 (which I just started) is about trying to get rid of Strip clubs in downtown Reno.

Bri, both are all episodes posted, so good to go on that front. Thought you might dig the Reno angle. Though, I do recommend S1... Really interesting (and frustrating).

Katie Nolan has a new podcast out, called "The Casuals". First episode is with Stavros Halkias.

I've only listened to the first 15 minutes or so, and its fine so far. I'm inclined to give her the benefit of the doubt because she's always a fantastic guest on "All Fantasy Everything", and she'll likely have great guests due to her connections to the comedy scene (her fiance is Dan Soder).

The live All Fantasy at the Bell House in NY, where they drafted Disney songs with Katie as their guest is one of my very favorite podcasts ever. If I'm ever feeling bummed out or laying awake not quite ready to fall asleep, I put that on and smile.

Thanks for the reminder. They teased it a bunch during her yearly stint in November (Nolvember) and I meant to go find it once it was out.

I may have mentioned this before, but if you are one of the .00000001% of Americans looking for good fantasy baseball podcasts, let me know.

During covid, I kind of got into them, went down a rabbit hole, and started a twitter account for a few years. Have stopped listening completely this off-season, but I still know all the players in the game well.

Was Jesse listenable? Dude bugs the crap out of me.

The Tig episode is one of their better ones. And I think I mentioned in the Movies thread that the interview with Kieran made me want to watch his movie. (I mistakenly said it was on Conan).

Scrolling back through episodes, Vince Vaughn was very good... And the live shows were really entertaining... Except the Boston one because the guest was weird.

I'm not a big fan of the non-celebrity episodes.

I love Tig, and that was a good episode. Really enjoyed her series One Mississippi, which was partially from her real life, but kind of an alternative reality if she didn’t make it in LA and returned home to host a local radio show. Also recommend her YouTube show Under a Rock, where she interviews A-List celebrities she’s never heard of, and has to figure out who they are. She says she’s oblivious to pop culture, and it’s hilarious seeing huge stars reacting to her having no clue about them.
