And Neil Young's an American now. Someone should have told him.

That was fun. McDavid was struggling and the US had Slavin on him all night. So impressed Slavin, as I rarely see any Canes games.
The key to the winning goal was the sequence before where Point beat Hughes to the icing, leaving Fox and Hanifin on the ice.
The US will have to re-thinking taking Hanifin and Fox to Milan. They are not good enough skaters for a game this fast.
It also shows how mediocre the NHL product is. You look at club football and it's tactically miles ahead of International football which slogs along, negative football. In hockey, you put national teams who haven't played together in 9 years, barely practiced and these are the best games you'll see all season.
Kung Fu movies are like porn. There's 1 on 1, then 2 on 1, then a group scene..
I know I'm really invested in something when I can only listen to the audio and have to distract myself (online catan) to not go crazy.
Even euphorically blocking out the fact that the players on the ice were the only Canadians that didn't feel this as more than a hockey game (and almost certainly have pretty gross personal politics), at least for a few days.
Love that I didn't have to cheer against Kyle Connor. Love that the most obvious script is that Hellebuyck gets the better of McDavid next time they face each other in a big game (cough, western conference final).
Love that the first thing McDavid said to ESPN when asked how special this is was "Its not like its an Olympic gold medal." lol NHL.
Definitely think Olympics/World Cup every second year is the exact right amount of this stuff.
And, I think it’s fair to opine that no sports figure has denigrated his own legacy more in the past few months than Wayne Gretzky. For the NHL to name this Trump fan as the honorary Canadian captain was tone deaf.
I’m watching it today even though I know the result because I needed rest last night. Happy that a loss meant that those fuckheads in the MAGA hats behind Coach Sullivan went home disappointed.
Edited when I saw there were multiple MAGA fuckheads.
My avatar corresponds on my place in the Swamp posting list with the all-time Home Run list. Tied with Mel Ott at Number 25 is Miguel Cabrera at 511.
Yep. Didn't watch to the end. Just so "whatever" about the entire thing given Guerin's bullshit and then that fucking asshole with his hat behind the bench.
As good as the game was, I just couldn't give a shit.
You can lead a horse to fish, but you can't fish out a horse.
another thought to add on the goal, sometimes a team just gets beat on the play. For football fans, I likened it to losing on a touchdown when the X reciever hits on a deep crosser against cover 3. Lots of people involved in a play like that who could keep it from being a score, but sometimes the play is right and the guy just wins.
It was after an icing so that's a tired group out there. Fox going behind the net on the wrap around from the point started the chain reaction. Fox isn't there in time for Marner, so Mathews leaks out a bit to avoid giving him too much room and the other D-man is occupied by Point. McDavid doesn't move and the space just appears.
The little play that Marner makes to be able to corral that puck off the wall without turning to his backhand to pick it up, not having to turn to his backhand hand but using his stake to angle the puck to his forehand off the boards is such a little simple play that opens up the time and space. You can see why Matthews was going to the wall, because 90% of the time a player is going to turn to the boards to handle that rimmed puck.

I went the other way and actively rooted for Canada. Helps that Cooper, Point, Cirelli, Hagel, and Brisebois were all involved.
Yeah, Canada is like the Maryland to Michigan/Hopkins for me. I root for them unless they are playing my team in any given sport. I was just so annoyed with the whole thing.

I found myself rooting for the US a bit in their first game. But after Guerin and Tkachuk started their maga shit and got Trump involved, it was easy for me to root for Canada in the final!
I might've been able to shrug it off had we not had to hear them bitch about keeping politics out of sports whenever it's something they don't agree with. I rooted my ass off for Canada last night and nearly woke up the house. Fuck those MAGA fuckers.
Right, and they’re correct that it wasn’t particularly vicious, but I loved the contortions of “it’s unfortunate for Rempe that the player’s head ended up between his body and the glass”.

It’s the opposite of “he’s just a little guy”. Even when conceding an illegal hit, half the fanbase says it isn’t his fault he’s so tall like Tyler Myers doesn’t exist.

I am enjoying the lesser milestones that he is breaking. In addition to the hat trick he broke Jagr game winning goals, tied Esposito in hat tricks (1 behind Hull), and added to the goalie he has scored against list. Starting to see interview with goalies about not wanting to be the guy in the goal when he breaks the record...will be seen over and over and over again for years to come.

Kyrou feels like the type where, if he's traded, it'll be an infuriating trade to one of the well run teams.
I saw Kyrou’s name in the article but that’s a head-scratcher. Great production, reasonable contract, at his peak years. I’d think it should have to be quite an offer to get him.
