Re: We Doing This Shit Again? (Trump Admin Meltdown II)
As a European observer of what happened in the Oval office yesterday, this was what I took from it:
Zelensky - We have worked within the Minsk Protocols and the Steinmeier Formula and Russia broke those agreements and can't be trusted diplomatically. I am here hoping you will continue to help prevent the distruction of my coountry.
JD Vance - I watch a lot of TV and if you don't agree with me, I will point and raise my voice and say you don't respect my boss.
Trump - I have no idea what is going on, but without me you'll die, and I'll let that happen unless you pay me protection money. Right, that's enough from you, get out of my house...

Yep. It was so fake and staged, especially from Vance. No reason to have cameras in there other than to boost Trump and Vance’s egos and publicly humiliate Zelenskyy as a show for Putin. Historic low point for our nation and the morons are eating it up. Trump’s plan seems to be to steal Ukraine’s natural resources before letting Putin take over. Absolutely disgusting.

I’ve been fully aware of the shitty things that our country did throughout its history, even in my own lifetime, but I have never felt ashamed to be American like I did yesterday.
Would buying some Russian flags and then in the middle of the night attaching them to people flying MAGA flags on their poles be too much?

The mid-terms are going to be "interesting" for the GOP.
https://www.politico.com/live-updates/2 ... n-00210024Trump on Monday dismissed the town hall uproar — much of it trained on the sweeping cutbacks made by the Elon Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency — as being the work of “paid ‘troublemakers.’” Many other GOP leaders have adopted a similar tack, asserting that the protests Republican lawmakers have encountered have been concocted by Democrats and do not reflect genuine voter anger over the Trump cuts.
"There are people who do this as a profession, they're professional protesters," Speaker Mike Johnson told reporters after the meeting. He said he thought it was "wise" to not "play into that" and added that tele-town halls were a good option for members to hear from their constituents.

Their problem is that they are actively fucking with 10s of millions of peoples lives. Like... People are losing their jobs and homes, and it's not just the Federal workers.
My wife is actively looking for a new job, anticipating layoffs at her job. And the ripple effect of this stuff in towns where the Feds are a major employer is going to be massive.
Because no one really took Elon seriously, no one was prepared for all of this.
It's a fucking nightmare and 10s of millions are living it.

My fear is that they've actually planned ahead enough that private companies are already created and will jump in to snap these people up and get government contracts, making all of this "work". The bigger the failures the better, macro sense.

And *way* less serious than your situation, but my son has a geography degree with a GIS emphasis. The jobs he'd mostly likely get would be governmental, either federal or state/local. Federal jobs seem out of the question, but so much applicable state or county work depends on federal government grants. (And of course he'd be competing for state/local jobs against people who were doing federal GIS work.)Nonlinear FC wrote: Tue Mar 04, 2025 2:11 pm Their problem is that they are actively fucking with 10s of millions of peoples lives. It's nowhere near the stress that people who are counting on fed employment income must be suffering, but it certainly doesn't help.

Re: We Doing This Shit Again? (Trump Admin Meltdown II)
I think they know they're cutting stuff that would cause backlash and the real plan is privatization and assuming people won't care how as long as its back.
Re: We Doing This Shit Again? (Trump Admin Meltdown II)
I don't think there are privatized versions of what's being cut. Like, how do health, research, climate, and environment protections organizations make profit? I don't think there's capital lining up for a lot of that.
Re: We Doing This Shit Again? (Trump Admin Meltdown II)
The capital comes from the same tax dollars it did before, just indirectly so a few people can massively profit off it.

I think different cuts have different explanations. Some things are getting cut because the MAGAs don’t give a fuck. Others are being cut so the 1% can provide the services for profit.P.D.X. wrote: Tue Mar 04, 2025 3:49 pm I don't think there are privatized versions of what's being cut.
