People that normally know nothing about politics or world events viscerally understand "Trump attack Canada". 80% of the hardcore MAGA (MACA?) crowd, based on their bonkers facebook group, have chosen patriotism over the usual conspiracies. I spent 4 minutes at the grocery store today finding the lettuce that was from Mexico and not California (every Canadian grocery store has already stuck an origin country sticker below every single product). Things are tense, and the "reverberations for a generation" line feels pretty accurate right now.

This has been the GOP's MO at least since Reagan. Try to convince people the government is inefficient, then work to ensure it's true. When Dem's are in power, they obstruct and blame the Dems as ineffective and unable to pass bills, and when they are in charge, they make cuts and say, "see, the government is inefficient, we need to privatize and hand this over to my friends and donors to fleece you." Dems are in a bad spot, because they actually want government to provide for the people, so they can't let the government shut down or giddily stand by and laugh while GOP policies destroy social security and Medicaid, because they can't take pleasure in knowing Trump voters are getting fucked by Trump and will vote Dem in the midterms. Also there is the problem that so many Trump supporters are too stupid to see reality and will believe Trump that it's somehow Biden's fault.

I feel like he's eventually going to break the government in a way that they can't get away with blaming Biden for. I put together a list while flunking my stay away from the news attempt, and wondered if any of the following will be enough to end this bullshit, hopefully before the next election (if we still have elections) in 2 years

The return of measles, followed by no flu vaccine next year, followed by deaths
His Russian connection finally getting him with the Ukraine embarrassment and western Europe loudly turning on him
Social security checks stop coming
Stock market and economy tanks more than 2008
National Parks being unavailable and ruined
Stupid inflation, especially on cars and groceries
Financial scandal (latest being using the Treasury to support Bitcoin, which he and his family (and the Russian Mob and other criminals) are heavily invested in)
Something outrageous caught on tape by his new military, police, brown shirts
Him turning on Elon and Elon bringing receipts to Twitter as he battles back
Something else he does to piss off the Supreme Court conservatives, Project 2025 people, or the wealthy (maybe Verizon because of Elon)
None of the above and I figure out how to move to Finland.

But unfortunately, we live in a country where the richest and amoral groups, the one the GOP caters to, is able to convince the tranche of stupid voters to be on their side. Even if the there’s a majority of people who can see that we’re going over the cliff, too many of them either stay home or their votes are suppressed.

Yup. I mentioned that my CEO is no longer approving business trips to the States.
We also changed all our office coffee machines from American to Canadian.

Alberta, the most conservative province, is now on board with no longer buying American products.

There are a lot of people standing to lose their businesses and farms as Canada is their main customer. And why are Canadians mad? They share a border with the biggest superpower who is threatening to make their country their 51st state?
