Terrible. 65 is way too young. Also much younger than I thought he was.

Goldy to the Yanks on a cheap 1-year deal.

I don't mind it.

Especially if they sign Vladdy next off-season.

I wish Roki Sasaki would sign with the Dodgers already so I can stop thinking he might not.

Yeah. Red Sox ownership, brass, and the media members in their pocket (not all Boston media, mind you) tried to create this false narrative that Mookie hated Boston. I couldn't stand it because I felt there was a racial undertone of "He thinks he's better than us." A lot of Boston fans bought the line that Mookie hated the city.

Not long before his move away, I happened to meet and spend a couple of days with the father of Mookie's best friend from childhood. He gushed over what a great guy Mookie was, and shared a bunch of stories. And he talked about how much Mookie loved playing for the Red Sox. Just loved it.

3 years with opt-outs throughout.

He has a 1.240 career OPS in Fenway, and glove at 3B is that good to bump Devers into LF, but are they really going to start Vaughn Grissom at 2B this year? Bregman’s only other work off 3B was SS a few years in the late teens.

This Sox team is shaping up really well.

These players are fucking up with the deferrals. If I'm willing to do that, the NPV is gonna be a lot more than 75% of the contract amount. AND it lets the owners get off paying less in nominal, today dollars, no?. This is Finance 101 shit and it makes me wonder if the agents get their cut up front.

Can't wait to hear Red Sox fans booing the cheating Astros (who have zero players who used the system) while cheering on their new 2B (who definitely used the system).

I obviously don't know what Bregman was being offered without deferrals, but I imagine it was far less than $40MM per. Its not like they're getting tricked, its just the highest value they're able to get contains future money.

The more I think about it, they’re probably going to start the season with Bregman at 2B and Devers at 3B, but once Kristian Campbell forces the issue by proving he has nothing else to learn at AAA, he’ll be up as the starting 2B by mid-May/June. That puts Bregman back at 3B and Devers as the DH in year 2 of a 10 year contract. The difference between Bregman at 3B and Devers is that much. “Two months is enough time to realize your future with us is DH, Raffy.”

I feel like there's a little Bernie Williams in Bregman. Not in terms of how they derive their value, but in probably being underrated while on what are effectively dynasty teams. No one thinks they weren't key pieces, but maybe did view them as too replaceable.

Those “you don’t ask for my medicals and I’ll just pretend I didn’t opt-out” jokes have aged poorly.

Apologies for dropping NPB news in the MLB thread. But I thought y'all might appreciate this.

Gonna be a lot less funny when trump mandates an MLB team signs or else he revokes the league’s antitrust exemption.

He might use that threat to force Pete Rose into the HoF. Wouldn’t put it past him.

MLB has no control over that. Not that he’s smart enough to know.
