Anyway the Bears are out here Bears-ing it up trading for elderly and overrated offensive linemen. They’ve identified the issue correctly and approaching incompetently so meet the new boss, same as the old boss. Maybe because the new boss is the old boss.

Re: NFL Offseason/Draft 2025
Why let a guy the Rams are going to cut reach the market when you can just send out an asset for him? The "upside" on their two trades is that both guys have a financial commitment for just this year (Jackson is under contract for 2026, but with no guaranteed money).brian wrote: Fri Mar 07, 2025 1:37 amAnyway the Bears are out here Bears-ing it up trading for elderly and overrated offensive linemen. Poles was the guy who hired the coach, but is out here with desperation, like he has to win this season. I've already seen suggestions they might draft Ashton Jeanty, which would further devalue Poles' signing of D'Andre Swift last offseason. Swift ranked 43rd of 47 running backs at PFF, which puts his signing on par with Poles' other biggest offseason signings - Larry Ogunjobi in 2022 (failed physical coded contract, tied up money during free agency) and Nate Davis in 2023 (made it halfway through a three-year deal before being cut).

I see the Deebo trade for a 5th as a low-risk, high-reward move for Washington.

I’m curious what the issue is with Jackson. A change of scenery could be a help to him because he was average to very good in Detroit in 2023 but pathetic in LA last year. Injuries maybe so getting him makes a little more sense than the other trade in a vacuum.DSafetyGuy wrote: Fri Mar 07, 2025 8:58 amWhy let a guy the Rams are going to cut reach the market when you can just send out an asset for him? The real test for me will be if Poles uses the draft to load up on OL still (as he should). If he doesn’t he clearly hasn’t learned anything about how the best teams in the league are built.
ETA: Some of his “success” in Detroit was getting to play with elite tackles next to him. Decker regressed this year but was elite in 2023. I think Detroit correctly identified him as overrated and let him walk. But feels like he’s a stopgap for 2025 at best and could actually inhibit the ability to build a good, young OL at worst.

It’s a great move for Washington, as long as there isn’t a cap issue.L-Jam3 wrote: Fri Mar 07, 2025 9:24 am I see the Deebo trade for a 5th as a low-risk, high-reward move for Washington.

Re: NFL Offseason/Draft 2025
Mina Kimes responded to a skeet about the Jackson trade about getting an asset back to get out from under his contract was a definite win for the Rams. The contract cost for a guy coming off a season lost to injury (and a benching when he came back from injury) is steep, but there's a "reuniting with Ben Johnson" line, too. He's going to be looking to play well to get a new contract because it's his last chance to cash in, as he turned 28 last year, even on a multi-year deal at a lower APR with greater guarantees than the $17 mill on his deal for 2026.brian wrote: Fri Mar 07, 2025 11:08 amI’m curious what the issue is with Jackson. Poles should draft linemen only (both sides of the ball).

Re: NFL Offseason/Draft 2025
I have long-term faith in the Holmes/Campbell regime in large part because of their commitment to build from the lines out. The big bet on Giovanni Manu alone gave me a hardon. If he develops his raw physical skills into production on the field the Lions could have the best set of OTs in NFL history. Though obviously the jury is a long way from out on Manu. But that’s the kind of shit I want to see from a GM.

You might wonder why the rebuilding Raiders want a 34 year-old quarterback. But, to 73 year-old Pete Carroll, Smith is just now entering his prime!

The local SportsBabblers here are talking about signing Sam Darnold....or....Aaron Rodgers.
Re: NFL Offseason/Draft 2025
Back when Geno was coming out there was a lot of anonymous slights on his intangibles like leadership or maturity, which looking back, of questionable veracity. It was reminiscent of a lot of criticisms of certain “types” of QBs coming out. I’m happy that Geno eked out a decent career and made some cash, even if it took a couple of stops.

I don't know anything about the Rams guy but I do know that Joe Thuney is still good, at least for now.

Re: NFL Offseason/Draft 2025
I'm ecstatic about this because Deebo is my favorite player in the league who wasn't on my favorite team. When he gets the ball, I frequently shout things like, "That's a grown-ass man. You can't arm tackle a grown-ass man" at the TV for some reason. And continuing on the line of subjective fanboy analysis, I think he will be motivated as hell.
But more objectively, he is getting reunited with old friends who know how to use him. People forget he had pneumonia for a long stretch last season. And I'm pretty sure some of his numbers (maybe YAC) were still among the best in the league. The other aspect here is that Terry McLaurin is basically alone in the WR room. And Jayden Daniels needs weapons.
If/when they restructure his contract and his cap hit gets lower, it will be even better.
Re: NFL Offseason/Draft 2025
Jonathan Allen is a freaking stud. And by all accounts someone you want in your locker room and on the field. Sad to see him leave. but it's likely the right move for both sides for a number of reasons. He was a beacon at a time of darkness.
Re: NFL Offseason/Draft 2025
Josh Allen gets a surprise(?) extension. 6 yrs, $330M. Quarter billion guaranteed.

Re: NFL Offseason/Draft 2025
I am hoping the Titans trade down from 1st overall to 2nd or 3rd overall and bag Abdul Carter. Ideally I want Carter and an starting Offensive tackle.
If they take Travis Hunter following a trade down then, that would be fine too as I think there is a lot of depth at Edge/OLB (from what I have read), so not snagging Carter and replacing Harold Landry could be done down the line.
I do not follow college football enough to know how good Cam Ward is, or what his upside looks like. If the organisation falls in love with him and want to take him 1st overall, then I am ok with that.
If they somehow end up with Shemar Stewart or similar, and a starting Left tackle (with JC Latham likely moving back to Right tackle) and a few extra picks trading back again, that would be ok.
The Titans roster has gone from really solid a few years ago to very ordinary.

Bummer, I was hoping he’d get another shot with the Jets, but I don’t know if he’d consider a return. Should be a good opportunity for him.

He had a good 16 games but the last two would give me real caution. I would lean more Matt Flynn 2.0 but there's no Russ waiting in the wings.

The focus with which the Bears have acted this offseason makes me think they realize they need to get their shit together on the field to resuscitate their new stadium dream.

So, any chance Justin Fields isn’t horrible for the Jets? I feel like he can be fun to watch, which would be a nice change, but I just don’t trust him as a passer. Hoping he can feed Wilson the way he fed Moore. Feel bad for Garrett Wilson wasting his talent in horrible offenses. And I fear he will desperately want out. Along with Breece Hall.

How was Hall last year? I’m kicking some ideas around in my head of flipping Saquon in the dynasty league I brought Giff into (and he subsequently won both years.). If I do I’d definitely need a young high-ceiling RB coming back among other assets. The Sybian wrote: Mon Mar 10, 2025 3:31 pm So, any chance Justin Fields isn’t horrible for the Jets? Re: NFL Offseason/Draft 2025
He had some flashes where he looked incredible, but overall not a good year. Ran for 800-something yards, caught another 400, I think 8 total tds. Blocking was horrible and he played through a knee injury most of the year, but only missed one game. I think he’s top 5 talent, but as long as he is a Jet, I wouldn’t bet on him.L-Jam3 wrote: Mon Mar 10, 2025 3:49 pmHow was Hall last year? Re: NFL Offseason/Draft 2025
FFS, I read this and thought well, that's another QB picking himself off the floor, many, many times.
By the time the season starts his contract will be between the 10th - 15th best in the league for an OLT, but he is not that. He gave up a sack a game when Wilson was starting last season.
We'll probs go and sign Wilson now, just for shits and giggles.
Re: NFL Offseason/Draft 2025
Yeah, I'm not really that great at analyzing OT's, but all I can say with confidence is that I will not miss Dan Moore.
Syb, Fields has a much better arm than Rodgers at this point, moves infinitely better obviously. He was throwing some darts last year downfield. The only thing he does worse really is reading defenses. I could see him and Wilson making a ton of big plays.
Were they teammates at tOSU?

Re: NFL Offseason/Draft 2025
Patriots spent a lot of money on defense and very little on offense, so I'm assuming (hoping) there is a left tackle in the draft they are very confident about.
