Re: Lacrosse The Thread
So USA upset the Haudenosaunee in the opener. Canada was running away against the Haudenosaunee (up 9-0) but the Haudenosaunee came back to bring it within 1 before losing. So we get USA v. Canada (both 2-0) on ESPN U tonight. And 0-2 England and Haudenosaunee at 4:30 on the Plus.

Re: Lacrosse The Thread
Teams (not just lacrosse) do this type of thing all the time in the offseason. But usually it is not voluntary, run by a professional company, and the school support is there (Trainers). W&L does a rafting/outdoor experience type thing. Others do big hikes and lots to miliary inspired workouts. Curious who takes the fall. This is the reigning national champions.Nonlinear FC wrote: Tue Sep 24, 2024 2:39 pm https://www.cnn.com/2024/09/23/health/f ... index.html

Re: Lacrosse The Thread
And all of that is fine, absolutely. But this Seal training stuff is just dumb. It's so over-the-top and just not necessary. 50 guys participated and at least 9 were hospitalized.
One or two guys needing fluids or something is one thing. The initial report was that a dozen dudes were sent to the hospital.
And I've been part of some absolutely brutal training sessions. Baltimore in August on the turf, 3 a days. Awful. But there were trainers and adults on the field to make sure nothing got to out of hand physically.

Right? When I read that article I was expecting, like, a 4 hour torture session or something.

This is also the weird off-season team shit that goes on?

Re: Lacrosse The Thread
So the USA just beat the Haudenosaunee in a fantastic semifinal. So the first time it won't be Canada v. Haudenosaunee for the championship. And it was a GREAT game. If you have ESPN+ worth just giving it a shot. Also USA jerseys are based on the 1980 Miracle on Ice ones, look great. But Jack Hannah (U Denver) went down with about 2 minutes to play. He has been filling up the goal, so that could be tough for the US in the final on Sunday (ESPN2 4pm).
Also the women's championship on Sunday at 1 on ESPN2.

Re: Lacrosse The Thread
The USA Canada women's final on ESPN2 is very good. Women's box lacrosse is way more physical than women's hockey
Re: Lacrosse The Thread
Season kicks off tomorrow with some good ones
JHU travels to Denver in a big opener for both teams.
Loyola travels to Georgetown
and Iona makes its varsity debut at Hofstra
Jacksonville visits the Carrier Dome (always will be the Carrier Dome to me)
and Terps host Richmond
Don't expect close ones for Rutgers (Lehgih), Ohio State (Utah), Michigan (Marquette), Navy (High Point), Duke (Bellarmine), Air Force (Lafayette)
Still a scrimmage but University of Shirley hosts (and will likely smash) the #4 ranked WLU Generals
Notre Dame, Cuse, Cornell, Princeton, Maryland, UVA, Duke, and JHU make up the top 8 of the d1 preseason rankings

Shocked if Hop gets a result going out west. Denver is a tough place to win an away game.

I feel like High Point beats a power (often Duke) about once a season.wlu_lax6 wrote: Fri Jan 31, 2025 8:42 am Season kicks off tomorrow with some good ones

Re: Lacrosse The Thread
Hopkins in some real danger as they kick off B1G with a 3 goal loss at home to Rutgers. Sitting at 6-3 and they could easily lose 3 of the next 4.

Re: Lacrosse The Thread
It's been a rough season for Virginia too. I don't really get why this team isn't working, as I'm pretty sure they've been recruiting quite well over the last few years.
Totally Kafkaesque
Re: Lacrosse The Thread
B1G is always a slugfest. No easy outs this year. JHU is a good team that may not be good enough or know how to dominate a game to win (there performance against Navy).
Ivy's are tough too. Cornell, Penn, Princeton, Harvard, Dartmouth all all beating good teams. Brown is a class below and Yale has fallen off but still a good team.
This is a strange year
Colgate, Richmond, Fairfield and Dartmouth are good. Harvard is an emerging monster (not surprised based on hiring Bryne as the coach). Loyola has not won a game (wow). UVA is a huge surprise. They are good, athletic, strong coaching (Maybe losing their top assistant was a big impact), and have won every recruiting battle. Seems like 5 stars only go to UVA or Duke.

He knows his shit. Rutgers beat #2 Maryland today (and beat JHU earlier this season).
I felt aswirl with warm secretions.

Re: Lacrosse The Thread
Wins against Hopkins and MD are losing some value at this point.
