There’s a lot of people that drive like that all the time and seldom get pulled over. They’re assholes. When they do finally get pulled over they’re usually enormous dicks about being punished for breaking the law.

I can appreciate the rolling stop so long as you have a view of the entire intersection. Turns over double lines are horse shit though. That's the driver with no fucks to give about anyone else.bapo! wrote: Sun Feb 28, 2021 2:19 pm I figured this would be a good week to read Hank Haney's book, 'The Big Miss' (2012), about his time as Woods' swing coach from 2004-2010.
Have any of you golf guys read it? There's a lot of technical stuff in here that you might find interesting. (I can vaguely visualize some of his concepts, but they don't really mean anything to me.) But the personal details about Woods are fun.
It reminds me of Jeff Benedict and Armen Keteyian's 2018 bio of Woods. (Highly recommended. One of the most readable sports bios I've ever read.) Makes me think a lot less of him as a human being, but I have an even greater appreciation of him as an athlete now.
All of the Navy SEAL and heavy-weightlifting stuff is detailed in Haney's book. I'm surprised this didn't cause more of a stir when it was published. I never heard about it until Wright Thompson's article in 2016.
Here's the most relevant paragraph for this week:
I never sensed that Tiger wanted to be treated like a king. He never had a big entourage. He never bragged about what he’d won or how much money he had. Tiger didn’t big-time. The most entitled I ever saw him act was when he drove around Orlando. It wasn’t that he favored fast cars. He owned a McLaren and a Porsche that were basically race cars, but they stayed in the garage from what I could tell. Mostly he just drove his Escalade, but in a way that reflected an impatient guy who wasn’t going to follow the silly rules of regular schlubs. He’d go over the speed limit, but not by a lot. Mostly it was rolling stops, turns over double lines, parking in a restricted spot—time-saving stuff he thought was worth the risk. When I was in the passenger seat, sometimes I’d say “Nice” after one of his illegal moves. That would draw a smile from Tiger as he enjoyed the rare feeling of breaking rules. But I never saw him get a ticket or even get pulled over.

THe parking in restricted spots offends me. People who illegally park in handicapped spots are scumbags.

Re: Tiger Tiger Tiger Tiger Tiger Woods y'all
Yeah, if you assume the restricted parking includes handicapped (justified in thinking this of course) then that as well. Cutting people off by denying them several feet of space in which to stop/control your car is still, horrible.

Going to be out there playing in the PNC with his son next week.

I'm watching the coverage right now, and they seem to be saying it was just the flu? Big difference between a physical problem and just feeling like crap.
Re: Tiger Tiger Tiger Tiger Tiger Woods y'all
Damn, now they're saying he spent some time in the ambulance. Getting old is a bitch. I remember the first time I got dehydrated from something other than the Irish Flu, it scared the crap out of me.

Seriously....why is he still playing at all? His body is broken...he's not competitive in tournaments any more. Why doesn't he just retire and get on with his life?

I know golf's a game you can play a long time. But not at the PGA level with this kind of time off. Time to hang em up!

Remember when we all thought that him passing Nicklaus's 18 Grand Slam wins was a done deal? Father Time (and Uncle Injury and Step-Brother Loving-Them-Hos) stays undefeated.

Best thing he could do for the game is focus on rehabbing and join Senior Tour full time at 50. That circuit could use a boost.

Re: Tiger Tiger Tiger Tiger Tiger Woods y'all
That's next year. I guess he may even be eligible now because I think it's the year you turn 50? Anyway, text year would be earliest, but i don't see hi ever playing a big schedule there. He's exempt into any regular PGA event for life, masters for life, Open til 65. He doesn't need the senior tour the way it needs him, of course.brian wrote: Wed Mar 12, 2025 9:50 am Best thing he could do for the game is focus on rehabbing and join Senior Tour full time at 50. He’s not eligible until Jan 2026 (he turns 50 in late December) but that’s my point. It’ll take him months to rehab anyway and actually having that to point to build attention would be helpful for that tour.A_B wrote: Wed Mar 12, 2025 10:05 amThat's next year. Wouldn’t prevent him from playing majors. Hell, with his injuries probably not gonna be able to play anything near a full schedule on either tour. If he played 12 senior events a year (the 4 majors plus 8 more) and the two majors he’s eligible for plus maybe his PGA event, the Memorial and two or three others that’s about as much as it seems likely he’s going to be able to do anyway

Re: Tiger Tiger Tiger Tiger Tiger Woods y'all
I guess that's too late in the year to get to play, like they do baseball ages as of a certain date. I just recalled Mickelson (or maybe someone else, I can't recall perfectly) playing in an event just before he turned 50.
And of course, if he turned it on and became good again, every major would find a way to get him in, too. But 12-14 events is likely all he'd ever play, so I'll just quit my rambling!

I think if golfed ripped my achilles once I'd never play golf again so he's way beyond my threshold.

Just retire. Maybe go the Freddie Couples route and just play at the Masters every year.

Tiger's new GF/Fiance (?) has quite a track record...

Her red flag is made up of nothing but red flags...
(and Jr proposing with a ring he got for free in exchange for staging the proposal in front of the store for tabloid coverage is the Trumpiest thing ever)

I know a bunch of us have talked about that mall before. Go there weekdays during the 9-5 hours and its just you and a lot of hot rich moms who got dressed up to go to a mall.
Re: Tiger Tiger Tiger Tiger Tiger Woods y'all
In LS, my roommates were becoming late paying the rent, so I took a job waiting tables at Papa Razi at that mall for a couple of months. Met Michael Strahan for the first of two times in less than a year.

I feel like this is maybe a case where Mickelson isn't choking it away as much as Woods is seizing it with a blistering back nine on Sunday...Ryan wrote: Mon Mar 24, 2025 12:35 pm Mickelson's going to choke away the "biggest chud" title when all is said and done, isn't he?
