NBA Draft 2025

Post by wlu_lax6 »

Just looking at a mock draft on NBA's site. They have Harper at 2 and Baily at 4. How can a team with 2 top 5 lottery picks go 15-17 (Rutgers)?

Just asked my son this question. He was so excited for the basketball season, went to every game the first month, then didn’t go again, said the team was terrible. He sees Bailey on campus, usually riding an electric scooter in circles while giggling. Also says he fucks around in warmups and doesnt take anything seriously. Can’t imagine how bad they’ll be next year.

So does this point to a bad coach who can't get the team to operate? Figured Harper would get it or his dad would explain it. Seems like a risk to take those 2 high in the draft. Which means the Wizards will get one of them and will disappoint. Creating more and more years of unwatchable DC NBA games.

The team around them was complete garbage. Harper should be a stud. Bailey has some growing to do to get to that point. But they are both top 5 prospects at this time. The word on this year draft is there is Flagg and Harper, then a complete mess of players. I listen to a few talking heads about the draft and the consensus is that from 3 to 20, these players aren't at that level compared to other years. Not until 21 and below do they feel that the value is around the same.

I vaguely remember a Kentucky team with a few top picks on it losing to Robert Morris in the NIT but that's all I got

Rutgers was really bad on defense and not very good at rebounding. Going game-by-game on T-Rank, it also looks like they really started bagging it on defense in mid-January, including pretty much quitting levels when their postseason hopes were just about erased.

Washington had the #1 draft pick in 2017 (Markelle Fultz) and went 9-22.

Off the top of my head, I can think of a few star freshmen who were on bad teams but still got drafted really high. Fultz, Ben Simmons, and Dennis Smith Jr are the ones I'm thinking of. Not a great NBA track record for those guys.

If it was just one of them...sure...there are lots of good players on bad teams, but you have 2 top 5s. That means you should be winning matchups on the court consistently. Not sure if it is bad coaching or head case players but the spidey sense says trade backwards if you can.

Is there any other school with the relative size of Rutgers, especially one that is functionally the state university and plays at the highest level of collegiate athletics, that has a sorrier level of success in the big two college sports? Because I truly can't think of one.
My avatar corresponds on my place in the Swamp posting list with the all-time Home Run list. Tied with Mel Ott at Number 25 is Miguel Cabrera at 511.

Probably the leader in the clubhouse, but...Minnesota, maybe? Altho New Jersey WAY more populous.

NJ kids are smart enough to leave NJ when they have that option.

So, reading through this thread, the Wizards are going to suck again next year?

They really really really just need a break in the lottery.

And not draft an over rated high school kid that Michael Jordan wrecks through head games

Rutgers has twice the enrollment of UNM and has a gigantic recruiting advantage compared to ABQ. There's been one homegrown star on the football team and one on the basketball team (Urlacher and Kenny Thomas) since I started following the Lobos in the early 90s.
Did you see that ludicrous display last night?

If we're counting non-power conferences, Texas State has to be up there.
