Anyone follow Serie A?
Just starting to get into it. Wondering if anyone follows any teams or has any good books or websites to recommend.
Games are on Paramount in English. But I'd actually like to find the Italian broadcasts if anyone knows how to do that.

Used to listen to a Serie A podcast, but it's been years and I can't remember what it was called.

Calcioland! But, according to that reddit link, that pod is no longer.

Actually followed Serie A for several years before EPL, but i haven’t followed since 2001. I watched on RAI, the Italian network was on my cable system. I feel like one game a week was on in English, but I can’t remember what channel aired it. Fell in love with Juventus. Zidane, Edgar Davids, del Piero, Inzaghi… they were so fun to watch.

I'm naturally drawn to Juve due to the kit, which I believe they adopted because they had to borrow uniforms from Newcastle at one point like 100 years ago. And I'm not against adopting a team with 36 scudetto, but it does feel like trophy-chasing and they're probably the biggest cheaters in a historically-corrupt league.
Also drawn to Fiorentina, AS Roma, and Udinese. Among others.

I tried to remain neutral, but they just played such a beautiful attacking style, which was rare in the days of Catenaccio which was a super defensive style the Italians loved. Same thing with Arsenal, I wanted to watch as a neutral but slowly found myself in love with the team.garyclark wrote: Sat Jan 25, 2025 9:01 am I'm naturally drawn to Juve due to the kit, which I believe they adopted because they had to borrow uniforms from Newcastle at one point like 100 years ago. I've been following Juve and Milan because they both have 2 American players.

I do the same, look at their box scores and watch highlights if they do something. No longer have any feelings towards Juve beyond Weah and McKennie.Nonlinear FC wrote: Sat Jan 25, 2025 12:33 pm I've been following Juve and Milan because they both have 2 American players.

For sure. I like Roma's colors as well. Sampdoria and Palermo also have great kits, but not in Serie A.DaveInSeattle wrote: Sat Jan 25, 2025 3:11 pmThe Fiortentina kits are fantastic...garyclark wrote: Sat Jan 25, 2025 9:01 am Also drawn to Fiorentina, AS Roma, and Udinese. Among others.

Re: Anyone follow Serie A?
Loved Serie A in the 90s. It was so competitive. Super teams but there was parity because of the 3 foreign import rule (pre-Bosman) all the talent was spread out.
In 1990-1991. Milan had the 3 Dutch stars, Rijkaard, Gullit and Van Basten. Inter had the 3 Getman stars, Brehme, Mattaeus and Klinsmann.
Of course Sampdoria won the title.

Re: Anyone follow Serie A?
Been watching a bunch of matches, mostly replays on Paramount+, and I have to say I've been surprised by the entertainment value.
I was thinking it would be similar to watching Gli Azzurri, a bunch of boring, kill-the-flow, slow, plodding football with lots of whining and diving. But not at all.
Incredibly entertaining football that reminds me very much of the EPL.
Lots of familiar faces ... Pulisic, Tammy Abraham, Kyle Walker, McTominay, Fofana, Lukaku, and more. And of course, a bunch of new players to get to know.
Roma, Inter, Fiorentina, AC Milan, Juve, Napoli, some great sides.

Re: Anyone follow Serie A?
Slow. Just saying
Re: Anyone follow Serie A?
Maybe I've just been on a lucky run. But I haven't found the pace much different than the EPL. Nor the goal-scoring. Hope it keeps up!

But the bigger point to me is that it's really enjoyable open football. Not slow it down, route one, going for the 1-0 victory.

The national team should play faster but it doesn't and it cant defend anymore. Can't really manmark these days like baresi in the 90s.

This is amazing. Love it. Thanks for sharing. Good way to practice my Italian as well.
Re: Anyone follow Serie A?
I've really been enjoying watching the fluid attacking style of football Como are playing under Cesc Fabregas.
Re: Anyone follow Serie A?
Still taking my team sorting out a rooting interest. This might take me years, and I'm enjoying the process. These are the teams I end up rooting for and am drawn to.
Roma - Love the city, love the colors, somehow not a perennial contender. Fans seem great, as it appears the ultras are drawn to Lazio. A good squad that breaks your heart. As a member of the Toon Army, I'm of course drawn to that story. Also feels molto Italiano! The legendary Claudio Ranieri is the manager. One of my favorites. And their entire team - physically and spiritually - runs through the wonderfully skilled Paolo Dybala. The only thing about Roma is that the manager is close to retirement and their talisman is likely in his twilight.
Fiorentina - Love the city, love the colors, and the only club in a city of this size and importance should be better. The people are passionate about that. The Argentinian god Gabriel Batistuta is one of my favorite players of all-time, and is a Fiorentina legend. So I've rooted for them in the past, even if only vaguely. Palladino is a young manager. Basically helped Monza avoided relegation and was then given reign over this club. I like his energy and his forward tactics.
Como - Never been, but plan to. Small city, small club. My favorite colors in the league. They have Cesc Fabregas, and he has a plan. Young team. I think they have the resources in ownership to grow. Fun to think about getting in on an early level of something that is growing. Especially in a place people say is one of the most beautiful in the world. But with its wealth, does the fan base have the passion of Roma or Fiorentina?
Other teams I'm interested in digging into are Napoli, Bologna, Turino, and Udinese (I've been drawn to them before but it feels like the ownership never invests, just develops and sells players, and I'm not signing up for another Mike Ashley experience voluntarily).

I like the idea of following Como. Great story behind the club and you have to love Cesc! Batti-goal! A player I loved to hate, but probably just should have loved.
