Re: Car buying
I'm starting to think about a new car. Looking at the Honda CR-V hybrid SUV...or maybe the KIA Sportage hybrid.
Anyone have any experience with them?

Re: Car buying
I had a non-hybrid Sportage as a rental car in Chicago last month and put a lot of miles on it in 24 hours and it was pretty nice. We do have a Sorento, so the familiarity helped.

Re: Car buying
My parents had two CR-V's and love them. I've driven them a bit, I much prefer my Accord, just better handling and acceleration, but the interior and features are identical. Accord is 6 years old, CR-Vs are 7 and 4 years old, never had any issues with any of them. My wife also has a 5 yo Accord. Haven't spent a penny beyond routine maintenance. I can't blame Honda for flat tires due to contractors dropping nails all over town. When I started looking at cars, my father bought the first CR-V and told me to test drive a Honda and he guaranteed I'd stop looking. He was right. Way better than the comparable Toyotas, Mazadas, etc..DaveInSeattle wrote: Sat Dec 07, 2024 5:55 pm I'm starting to think about a new car. My sister bought a Kia Sorento and hates it. But she hates everything.

Re: Car buying
I've had multiple Hondas over the years, and have had great experiences with them. My current car is a 2011 Honda Civic, with only 88K miles on it. I just don't drive that much (ride my bike to work, etc). But it is starting to show its age, and I'm worried about what happens when President DipShit gets in office and starts his tariff nonsense. Might be the right time to pull the trigger on something new.The Sybian wrote: Sat Dec 07, 2024 6:01 pmMy parents had two CR-V's and love them. I own a 23 CRV Hybrid Sport Touring. Happy as hell with the car and the gas mileage. Happy to answer any questions.DaveInSeattle wrote: Sun Dec 08, 2024 11:47 amI've had multiple Hondas over the years, and have had great experiences with them. Re: Car buying
so to close it out
got good value on the totaled volvo- paid some stuff off
spent most of hte fall as one car family - bought used $20 bike trailer off marketplace, took the kids to/from daycare in it, went all over town on weekends
wife finally had it, so shopped around - convinced her that used or certified used was better than new.. almost get her into a sedan, she ended up in a cadillac xt4 lease return, 3yo <20K for a pretty good price.
its a few inches shorter than the volvo, so better in the garage, great mileage, peppy, good so far. she has yet to name it though.
so we use the atlas (mine) as family wagon, and the cadi as the pep around town,go out wo the kids and stuff.
back to looking at used motorcycles on marketplace. one of these days i'll pull the trigger again.

Re: Car buying
Happy Honda-Days everyone!
Did all the paper work this afternoon on buying the 2025 Honda CRV all wheel drive hybrid. Went for the L model, which is the mid-range on the luxury bells and whistles. Leather heated seats, but not the heated steering wheel.
Helped that my father decided to "share his good fortune" and sent me a sizable chunk of money that I'm using as a down payment, along with my old car as a trade-in.
I pick it up on Friday morning...and the guy asked me if I wanted the big red ribbon to put on top of it Christmas morning. I passed on that.

Pulled the trigger and bought the new Honda CR-V yesterday. Pretty sweet ride.
And stood there this morning and watched my daughters drive away in it to go skiing. Nerve wracking!

Got Mrs. AB a new whip. 2025 Tuscon. She got a car allowance from work, so it was a no brainer. We went a bit above the allowance but nothing too bad. And a full warranty, feel like the price was good AND she got the color she had been looking for as well.

Re: Car buying
As I mentioned in the EV thread, we ordered the missus a new Volvo. When I broached the question of a trade-in, the sales guy had an interesting answer. He noted that even though our 2010 Ford Escape Hybrid has only 84,000 miles on it and is in fine shape, it is still a 2010. And, thus, he said the trade-in offer he could give me would be "appallingly low". He allowed that it's a hassle to sell it ourselves and suggested we sell it to Car Max. He said they would likely give us much more than he could, and that it should be a quick, painless transaction.

I had my money on TT for that award.
And Cerrano is right, I love my 2018 Accord. Almost immediately bought another for my wife. My daughter hates it, but that makes it even more fun. She’s always been upset that we didn’t have an SUV. Planned on getting one, but the Pilot and Highlander didn’t impress me.
