My Sportsfrog tab was still open on the Safari app on the new phone!

I've been loving Mint Mobile, until I dropped my phone last night and broke it. It would be nice to go to a store to have it replaced right away, but I guess you loose that for saving $600 a year. Now I'm waiting to hear back from Google who coudn't fix my phone through chat and said they would get back to me in 24 hours for Google to provide the "best available options for me." I don't know if I should wait to hear back or just go to Best Buy and get the replacement, then switch the SIM card. Mint Mobile chat is telling me that they're not gonna help pretty much

Edit: it broke from like a two foot drop as I was getting out of my car which I swear I have done at least 10 other times without a problem (dropping the phone, not getting out of my car). So now I'm thinking about paying for the OtterBox, but I've had a generic wallet type phone holder, and I used it to hold a few credit cards and license. Anyone combine a more protective case like ottorbox with the wallet folio thing?

Hey if any of you apple fanbois like me have a watch and an iphone AND you aren't getting notifications on your phone, it's almost 100% likely that it's the watch that's stealing them and just showing banners but no sounds.

Finally figured out an issue where I would never get any notifications at night - specifically the Blink camera system. There were guys walking through my back yard at 5 AM yesterday and they apparently riffled through a few cars down the street.

T-Mobile raising prices for older plans. $5 per line for me. Fully expect that it's another $5 per line in 6 month and another 6 months after that.

Infinite growth must prevail! Line must always go up.

Probably to pay for all of the T-mobile Tuesday deals they push that I can't take advantage of because they are not for things near me.

I managed to fall off a boat dock up in the San Juans last weekend, and of course, my phone was in my pocket. Somehow, it managed to not die completely, but its now being really flaky about plugging in anything with a lightening connector....sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. For example, the lightening headphones I have for when my earbuds run out of charge don't work at all, the cable in my car doesn't want to work, and the charging cord I have here at work is about 50/50.

Trying to decide if I just need to eat it and go get a new phone (an iPhone 16) or just try to live with it.

The problems are unlikely to get better. Hopefully it's already paid off?

I don't think so...when I got back to our condo, post falling off the dock, I plugged it in and got a "wet connection detected" alert, and when I tried to charge it overnight, it didn't charge at all.

Well if you have insurance and they will work on it it may be worth it. I once had water damage on a kid's phone and that was the first thing they checked for and once confirmed, insurance was out the door. I think they had one of those "any condition" trade in things at the time so it was basically a wash after a few months, so we replaced it. Phones nowadays are better at dealing with water so maybe it's covered now.

Any chance there's video of you falling off the dock?

Sadly, no.

Did the fact that there was no wind at all, and we had a 2 hour motor into Roche Harbor, that started with a full cooler of beer, have something to do with me falling in? That can be neither confirmed or denied.

Speaking of which, what’s the best way to clean your phones port.

Turn off your phone.
Blast the port with a can of compressed air.
Wrap a toothpick with some cotton and gently swab the port.
Blast the port again with some compressed air.

Turn phone on.

Profit.

Should have put the phone in a bowl of dry rice over night to pull the water out.

I use an eyeglasses screw driver with a bit of a microfiber glasses cleaner over it, or a tooth pick, but those can break.

I upgraded to an iPhone 16 and I honestly don't see any discernible difference between this and the 12. I guess the camera is better?

It probably gets less toasty to warm your hands when it's running larger apps.

I'm about to pull the trigger on a Motorola Razr 2024. I have to keep my iPhone 11 Pro as I use it to sync/manage/update my Apple Watch. But like I said in this thread two years ago, I intend to use my phone less for keeping up to date with the world. I don't want it to be a grandma flip phone, cuz I can still utilize Apple Music on a Motorola (Android) phone to connect with my car stereo (it's Carplay/Android Auto compatible). $600 for a 256gb phone. I guess that's not bad. Certainly cheaper than an iPhone.

We just upgraded phones for the first time in five (5) years and I have no idea how to charge in my car now. Our prior ones were USB to lightning, these look like they need USB to USB-C but does apple not make that? Is it just this guy and they don't actually make their own?

Apple had to go to USB-C because of an EU ruling a couple of years ago. I've had to start managing iPads at work and the multitude of chargers I have to have at my desk is insane. You can get any USB-C charger and it'll work for the iPhone. I got some from Amazon that have a little light at the USB-C end and love being able to find them in the dark. I think I got a pack of 6 with a bunch of varied lengths for 15$.
Did you see that ludicrous display last night?

They (People, not apple for god's sake!) absolutely make USB to USB C charging cords. I have one in my truck and one in my backpack. A true embarrassment of riches. Never even use the one in my backpack. Profligate, I say.

the C-type chargers are a million times better. Charge much faster. I've had an iPhone 15 for about a year, and it's incredible how well it still keeps a charge. Curious if it'll be like all the older models and suddenly start draining fast.
