Re: SwampMD
My wife started having abdominal pain yesterday afternoon. Didn’t get better so went to urgent care this afternoon and a CT scan showed she has appendicitis so they sent her to the ER. I was coming home from a college visit with our youngest, so her sister drove her and I met her there.
The urgent care place is affiliated with the hospital so they had her in the system and told us to sit down and wait for a room in the waiting room.
After too long (45+ minutes) of nothing, we realized everyone coming in was not only going to see a triage nurse but was also getting a wristband. So I asked about the wristband. Not sure the desk attendant believed me at first when I told she didn’t have one, but she printed one out and a minute later got called to see the triage nurse.
So one strike against all of the “don’t worry if you’re not seen in the order of arrival because we’re trained professionals and process everyone based on medical need” signage.
After another hour plus she got a room and the first thing the nurse wanted to do was send her for a CT scan to check for appendicitis…. Cmon. At this rate she’ll be lucky if they don’t give her the antibiotic she’s allergic to (and we told multiple people about).
Seems like they’re going to do this tonight. Planning on non-invasive, but will keep her for the night since it’s so late at this point.

Good luck. Maybe drop a really ill-timed “that’s one way to lose a little weight!” joke when things are settled.
Re: SwampMD
Some dude who was there before we got there and was obviously in some distress eventually pissed himself at the front desk and got immediately moved to the back and my “that’s one way to get seen” comment fell pretty flat so maybe I’ll wait on that.mister d wrote: Wed Apr 16, 2025 8:13 pm Good luck. Other than that everything has been pretty chill so it was smart of HBO to green light The Pitt and not The ‘mit (that’s a NJ joke).
She got wheeled off by the anesthesiologist and I’m in a waiting room with a visitor’s bathroom that doesn’t look like it’s been cleaned in days. Hopefully the biggest worry I have now is getting her in the house tomorrow without the idiot dog jumping on her.

Guess I don't need to ask what hospital you are in. Disappointed to hear about the issues, we've had nothing but great experiences there. And after discussing The Pitt with my sister yesterday, we are both convinced the nurses intentionally slowly OD'd my father in that hospital, and we are both grateful for it.rass wrote: Wed Apr 16, 2025 9:08 pm Other than that everything has been pretty chill so it was smart of HBO to green light The Pitt and not The ‘mit (that’s a NJ joke).

Let us know how it went. The full bathroom experience, of course.

For work I need evidence of two MMR vaccines, but my childhood vaccine records were lost, so my doctor did a titer test to see that I have immunity. I do not. Mumps and Rubella, I do, but for Measles I do not have immunity. So I will be avoiding Texas until I get some MMRs. I wouldn't have had the test if my records weren't lost, and now I wonder how many other people are out there thinking they have immunity but do not.
