Is it? Any clue how he will decide? Im sure he'll have more coming. You going to travel?

This dad gets a trip to La Jolla to check out UCSD and sdsu. Could do a lot worse for spring break. I'm gonna check out Torrey pines and walk the cliffs if I can

We did most of our visits over the last few summers and early in the fall (recruiting trips or in town for races). The top 3 on his list should come in this week (including the one that deferred him during early action). Top priorities for him are academics, place he can engage with professors, and cool opportunities to go overseas.

The girl (sophomore) is starting to get serious thanks to soccer. Been to a couple ID clinics, and she is really getting a sense of what she wants in a school. Went to one of, if not the largest college showcase tournaments in the US this weekend (Jefferson Cup, close to 2,000 teams in all age groups over 4 weekends) and she got some positive responses from some coaches. Drew University coach wrote her before the tournament asking for her highlight reel, then wrote again saying he'd show up for one of her games. He showed up with 5 minutes left, right as the coach pulled her. He told the team manager he was there just to see my daughter, so that kind of sucks. OTOH, she feels the school is too small (1,600) and too close to home (15 minutes) but just wrote the coach because she participated in an open practice with the team last year under a different coach. He told the manager to tell her he'd come to see her during their season. Yesterday she got a really nice note from the Susquehanna coach saying she came to her game on Friday and had specific notes for what impressed her and one suggestion to improve her game. I didn't even realize my daughter wrote them and send her highlights.

She wants to teach elementary school and coach HS soccer and I've heard Susquehanna has a good teaching program. The more schools we see, the more she likes TCNJ, which I love, as it's a state school with a great teaching program, I'm just concerned the soccer team is out of reach, as they are a nationally ranked DIII program, but she did get positive feedback from the coach after an ID clinic there.

Kid #2 really liked Elizabethtown College, and so did we, and the rain held off, which was all great since it was 5 hours round trip.

Nice. Were there kids around? I've had a couple visits on Sundays and breaks and it's harder to get a feel. Is she a senior or are you early?

Not outside so much because it was overcast, but school is still in session so they were around (Etown was actually playing my alma mater in lax while we were there, and kicking our asses), and it was a dedicated open house weekend so plenty busy.

She’s a junior, and we did maybe start a little early last fall.

But yeah by far the worst tour I’ve been on the past couple of years was mid-June on a completely dead campus (sorry mister d). At least it wasn’t raining.

Kid. I feel like I can be forthcoming and she will respect my money but $99k per from one of these places. She sat with the president of a university yesterday for a full ride. At the same time one admit is a grad school alma mater so good enough for daddy but not you? I know a woman that has made every wrong choice available and is still feeding her and baby daddy kids off a Duke degree. And theres another bill in 2 years. Who will have it tougher. Hard for them to realize how much one of them is gonna want this house

Ok, gotcha. If the answer was “kid” my next question was going to be “are you paying?” Because we mostly aren’t/won’t be. Some, but no where near all, and we’ve made that clear to both of them. If you are, then I haven’t had to approach this process from that direction.

Everything worked out great with kid 1, but kid 2 might end up on the hook for some undergrad loans.

I'm/it's all over the place. Some merit but still waiting on them in some cases. I've saved but theres levels. Money to start life or loan payments and mom dad move to NC to soft retire which sounds pretty ok but all can be had on North avenue

We're not there yet, but we're approaching there and it'll be from that same perspective. We've always stretched to raise them where we wanted them to grow up (and so I could have a few nice joggers) rather than hoping things worked out so in 18 years they could just be no-debt dipshits.

It's Georgetown's School of Foreign Service for the boy. Figure in 4 years when we have to rebuild the foreign service my son will be graduating at the perfect time with that skill set.

And not the kid, but my sister just got an offer for a teaching position at UVA’s Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy. She is bummed that she won't have her nephew crashing at her place, but is asking on my behalf about faculty tickets for sporting events.

So the boy finally got past his nerves and emailed the lightweight rowing coach. Got a response hours later and met the coach at the boathouse (my sons high school team and club team row about of the same place at Georgetown so. Coach was excited about him, told him the standards he needs to hit to make the team, and put him on the recruit text chain. Not buying Georgetown rowing gear yet, but kid has a chance for d1 experience.

I dunno, when they move away to college, you gotta worry about them falling in with the wrong crew.
