Was watching a movie last night, and the dogs started going nuts at some point. There is a dog in the movie, so I thought it was related to it occasionally barking and whining (even though one of my dogs is deaf), but that didn't seem to be the case. I eventually caught a whiff of something, and I think a cat must have pissed in or near one of the windowells for our basement and they realized it well before I did.

Also, the movie made the mistake of getting a little too over the top over the top towards the end, but was a lot of fun.

I hate to bump this thread. Really hate it.

Our yellow lab, Fuzzy Kat, has always been active, happy dog. She was basically a puppy until she was about 11. She just turned 13 this week. A few months ago, she started balking at doing certain stairs and could no longer jump up into the back of the Tesla. Not surprising. Then, a few weeks ago, she started limping, not using her back right leg much. She's our third yellow lab and the previous two tore their cruciate ligament (one of them did both of them), so we weren't surprised. I took her in a couple of weeks ago to have them take a look. The vet poked around, didn't find any sensitive spots, and gave us some pain killers to try for a couple of weeks. If that didn't work, we could bring her in for sedation and x-ray/MRI to tell for sure what's going on.

Then, on Sunday when we got back from the beach, I opened the back of the Tesla and for some reason, she jumped out before I got a chance to get there and help her down. She immediately started howling in a way I've never heard from her before. And now she held that back right leg way up, never letting it get near the ground. I got her into the vet on Wednesday and the vet poked around again and agreed to set up an x-ray/MRI the next day. He agree that it was likely a torn ligament - maybe she had only partially torn it before - and we talked about how she was healthy and active enough to be willing to do a surgery that they don't often do on older dogs.

On Thursday, I took her in and my wife took the call from the Vet in the afternoon. It was all bad. It wasn't a torn ligament, but rather a shattered femur. And that likely happened because she had aggressive bone cancer. The only treatment that could be done for the leg was amputation, but he wouldn't do that due to the cancer and her arthritis. And he said she was in pain and had 2 months, tops. It would only get worse.

We called our boys to come spend Thursday night at home and we had a long, sad night. Friday morning, we all took her for one last ride. She was happy to the end, which made it even harder. Our previous dogs got old and had a long slide, but not Fuzzy. It was so fast that we're all still shocked.

Sorry to share such a sad story. But it does help to type it out. Scratch your puppies for me tonight.

Sorry, bud. My yellow lab had a similar life. Behaved like she was a puppy for 14 of her 16 years, and then her back legs went out on her.
