I have also had mixed experiences with produce there. But I'm telling you. This parsley was so good.sancarlos wrote: Wed Apr 30, 2025 11:16 pmYeah, my wife refuses to get produce from TJ’s.mister d wrote: Wed Apr 30, 2025 11:11 pmThis is like the 180 opposite of my Trader Joe’s experiences. The awful “anything not boxed” is why I rarely go for anything fresh.garyclark wrote: Wed Apr 30, 2025 7:29 pm I got parsley from Trader Joe's. And it was the best parsley I've ever eaten. So much more firm and tasty than the sad limp stuff you get - even from farmer's markets or Whole Foods. Also lasted forever in my fridge.
It is worth the trip alone.
Also a big fan of the pre-cooked lentils they have in produce.

Herbs are fine because you know what you're getting into. Its the onions that you cut and they're all slimy and the core is green and shit. Fuck that.

Yup. Stuff goes bad way prematurely. If you buy organic bananas green, they won't ripen. They just go from green to sickly yellow and hard, with never an edible stage. The normal paper bag trick won't work on them... you have to put an already-ripe banana in with them to get them to transform into an edible thing. Too much work for f-ing bananas. The mini-avocados are well-priced and seem like a good idea, except they're weird and stringy. The oranges are often mealy and flavorless. Tomatoes are a straight no-go. Don't get me started on the apples.

I usually avoid produce there. Bought oranges (sumo or Cara Cara) once and they were very good.P.D.X. wrote: Fri May 02, 2025 2:45 pm Yup. Stuff goes bad way prematurely.
