Really? I missed the part where the American army sailed down the Thames, marched into London, and burned down Westminster and Buckingham Palace.

A couple more ties like that we'd be in bad shape.

(jk, this war always cracks me up as particularly pointless.)
Americans did set fire to the capital of Upper Canada first...and it was pointless. I look at it as sort of an after shock.
Did you see that ludicrous display last night?

Pens go back to their original gold (and an old look) with their new third sweater.

I like that one of the games they'll be wearing them is against the whiny "those are our colors!" Bruins.

MLS definitely needed a new logo, but I'm not sure this one is the answer. Looks a little too generic, like what you'd see in a video game where they couldn't get the official license and so made up a fake one.

As a guy who wears to camo (ABUs - Airman Battle Uniform to be technical) to work every day, I also hate it. When civilians play military, it's cute. (In the "Awww. They're trying so hard!" way.) The right intentions are there, but I've played this game my entire career. It's a hollow tribute in my mind. Whenever you need to rally up a bunch of support, put us out there on display and everyone gets a Freedom Boner. The military is patriotism viagra for the average flaccid and impressionable American civilian.

thanks Johnnie, for not taking offence to that.

i actually think mixing something like sports (or most/everything) with military is horrible, and it's not in any "oh you hate the military" way, just that it's despicable and almost quite literally "the least" someone can do. it's not supporting shit-all, it's mindless flag-waving which i'm not sure anyone hates that more than i do.

you want to support the military, do it by funding VA hospitals or putting every returning and existing vet to work on a massive infrastructure rebuild in America. Actually getting the fuck out of every country in the world and putting less people on a daily deathwatch would be a nice pie-in-the-sky solution.

yesyes but the terrorists.

(i try to have sports be my escape from the misery of the world, not to rope me back in)

Here's an ad that ran here for a few years showing his full training regimen.

Many, many years ago I was working on one of the worst shows in Canadian history - Friday Night with Ralph Benmurgi a weekly variety show.

My first week there, "Moxy Fruvous" was on and I had to listen to that whimsical piece of a cappella horse shit over and over and over. That song (and not surprisingly, they were one (small) hit wonders here in the great white north) is on my soundtrack from hell.

But one of the members of that group went on to become a broadcaster and pop cultural commentator on CBC Radio (think NPR) and was being groomed to be the next face of the CBC's tv network when this happened...

http://globalnews.ca/news/1647091/timel ... -ghomeshi/

In a nutshell, he liked to punch women during sex. Oh and he liked to squeeze them at work.

And that concludes today's instalment of "Footnotes From Canadian History."
