You did tell him since he did such a poor job of cheering for the Cadets, you had to drive him back to West Point, right?
(Semi-interesting side note, at least to me, but I think this is the first time this century that an FBS team played a true road game against an FCS school. Given it was the 100th anniversary of the Yale Bowl and all, perfectly acceptable/understandable. But still interesting.)

Well, him and his buddy, who joined him for the weekend. His buddy:brian wrote:You did tell him since he did such a poor job of cheering for the Cadets, you had to drive him back to West Point, right?
The eagle outfit is in my apartment as I speak. Couldn't find an interested female last night. Hey, Ensign Billy, any offers? You could be an alumni legend at Annapolis…
Who knows? Maybe, you were kidnapped, tied up, taken away and held for ransom.

I'm trying to muster the motivation to drive out to steeltown Wednesday morning. One game wildcard playins suck. (still haunted by 1998, obvs.) (at least that game didn't make me go out and start using HGH, although it had that effect on some.)

Friend who works for the Jets got us some ice time at MTS Centre tonight. Pretty awesome. Arena feels much smaller and closed in from ice level compared to in the stands.

Is that Conky on the left in the back? (or a broad?)
Did you see that ludicrous display last night?

Re: Swampers at the Ballpark
Went to BC vs. Syracuse yesterday. Showed up at the ticket booth and the guy offered $50 seats for $40. We bought $10 seats and ended up sitting on the 40 yard line right near the field. Pretty dead atmosphere except for a pretty good fight and then about 3 or 4 ceremonies with the 84 team with Flutie going on the field to throw some passes into the crowd. I know it was Thanksgiving weekend, but the level of fan apathy is pretty impressive for a team that consistently produces good pros and just last week came within a few plays of beating FSU.
Re: Swampers at the Ballpark
Mulled going to the Rams/Raiders game in STL yesterday. (Was downtown right next to the stadium waiting for my hotel room to be open). Glad I didn't. If the Rams don't move to LA this offseason, the Lions play in STL next year so I'll check the Edward Jones Dome off my list next year.

you aren't missing anything if they do move.
Re: Swampers at the Ballpark
St. Louis has gotta be the least hostile place to see an NFL game as a fan of the visiting team. I went to the 49ers-Rams game earlier this season and there were about as many 49ers fans there as Rams fans. Plus, building security yelled at the one Rams fan in my section who was actually boisterous. You'd think that when you're nearly outnumbered by visiting fans, you'd want to encourage your fans to get rowdy.

Re: Swampers at the Ballpark
Went to my second Leafs game of the season (and second of the past decade) yesterday. Freebies, but centre ice ticket, 7th row of the upper deck lists for $120.
Air Canada Centre packed as always (Leafs have basically sold out every home game since World War Two), really good game against the reigning Stanley Cup Champs, Leafs on fire (8-1-1 in last 10 games) an the place was - as always - morgue-like.
Raptors crowds are great, loud, knowledgable and able to make noise without a cachoponous blast from the speakers and the words "Let's Make Noise" appearing all over the place. And while a Toronto hockey crowd knows more about the sport than just about any hockey crowd in the world, it's the sort of crowd where people get aggravated if the guys two rows in front of them are standing during a shootout.
Almost surreal.

Re: Swampers at the Ballpark
Bump.
Got a foul ball off Victor Martinez's bat last night at the Toledo Mud Hens-Syracuse Chiefs game. Should have had it on the fly, but it tailed away and I took it off the base of my right thumb.
Very good chance it gets stashed in my former roommate's son's bag so he can find it after they leave town.

Went to the O's - Nats game at Camden Yards today. Nice to have family who routinely has coffee with "Peter". Have never been inside of the VIP entrance or inside of the warehouse. Got to watch from a suite and my daughter ended up with a ball (Weiters fouled one back that someone grabbed...my cousin got the whole section to shame him handing it over). Too bad the O's lost.
It was a giveaway but these were gone before we got to the stadium. Apparently people were lined up at 9AM to make sure they got a shirt

Re: Swampers at the Ballpark
Another year, another batting practice sesh at the local single-A club ballpark.
This, to save you the trouble of going back to page one, was last year
"That was way harder than i was expecting. Missed/foul tipped 8 of first 9 or ten. Then started making contact. Only hit 4-5 that were solid base knocks, most were shallow fly balls. Furthest hit was probably 220 foot fly ball. Best hit was a line drive straight into the pitcher's fence. That one was a hard single, but I woulda streched it into two with my speed.
I liked shagging fly balls as much as anything. I never played center field before. Put me in coach!
And one other thing...I have a new appreciation for the arms of professionals. Just from 3rd to first is a big throw."
Anyway, the upshot of this year's experience is:
THis year, I said fuck it, I always hit better from the left side (years of copying Dave Parker's swing probably with a bit of Junior in the back yard) but my coaches would never let me hit portside. But there were no coaches last night.
So you have the Cobra:
The Kid:
And the Bastard Son Thereof:
Was just killing it. Soft grounder on first pitch, foul tip second, then four solid fly balls to the the power alley in right-center. Then a couple of strong singles to center, a few more flyballs and hard grounders mixed with a couple of line drives and basically I'm The Splendid Aluminum Alloy.
Oh, and I almost killed a 4-year-old whose parents were just casually standing with in right field. Line drive single in the gap that landed 15-20 feet in the grass and 5-10 feet from these people who were paying zero attention.
Took the criticism of not getting my weight/legs in the right spot last year very seriously. Played wiffle ball at least twice in advance of getting ready for the big event. Here you can see the results of my efforts:
Everything in the right spot. Put me in coach, indeed.

Re: Swampers at the Ballpark
You're still drifting and, while I can't see for sure, it looks like you've got some bat drag. Work on sitting down through the pitch and maybe do some wrist curls or whatever Bronto says are a good wrist workout.
