Hey swampers.
Would any of our resident tax professionals be willing to advise me on a problem I am facing with the IRS concerning my 2012 federal return?
The snafu concerns a 1099-MISC and whether the "self employed credit" and "self employment tax" apply.
I can expand more via pm or email
TIA

Thanks for the tip sancarlos, I'mma gonna PM Mr. HDO.
Thanks also for the Isles nod, very exciting start to our season. Very hard to contain the excitement even though it's so early. I'm just hoping unlike other seasons, we're all still feeling this good here in Isles country come mid-late November.
Concerning my dilemma, if anyone else has any experience I'd love to hear how things worked out.
The issue boils down to an 1099-MISC form and income reported in Box 7 - non employee compensation.
Accd to the IRS, if the money was earned from a "sporadic activity or hobby", you don't have to worry about the self employment tax. But apparently, the IRS doesn't like that answer, so they assume everything in that box is from "self employment", and you have to convince them otherwise.
My main question is...how easy/hard/impossible is it to convince them the work was "sporadic"?
