ESPN's Dan Shulman (my sister's class - apparently a super nice guy)
Canadian House Leader Peter van Loan - comparable to House Majority Leader (my class)
Legendary (in Canada) sports broadcaster Dave Hodge
Two Playwrights you've never heard of
A woman who played "Palmer" in the final Saw movie
Nora Young (Canadian Broadcaster)
And maybe 2,000 lawyers and 500 Doctors.

Also there is a story that Edgar Allen Poe applied for a teaching position at the school but was rejected for being a bit too creepy.

Great thread idea:
Since none of them will be recognized by name...
Daniel Bursch, astronaut. Several stays on the International Space Station, crew member on the final shuttle flight. He gave the commencement speech at my graduation, and I dutifully snubbed him and walked past his outstretched hand as I collected my diploma.
Peter Robinson, speechwriter for Reagan and GHW Bush. Wrote the "Tear down this wall" speech.
Steve Perry, lead singer of Cherry Poppin' Daddies (Zoot Suit Riot).
Some other lame authors and a sciency dudes. Including, as I am sure you all remember, my friend's older brother who was part of the team that was the first to create a fermionic condensate.

These folks I know pretty well. Wilson and Brown, very well. Denise and Marcy were my sister's two closest friends.
Michael Franti, musician (and USF hoopster)
Denise Curry, Basketball Hall of Fame (Best female player in the country, time period between Ann Meyers and Cheryl Miller)
Dave Scott, six time Ironman triathlon champ, helped establish high profile of the sport
Craig Wilson, three-time Olympian water polo star, goalie
Steve Brown, MLB pitcher, Angels
Marcy Place, two-time Olympian, field hockey, Hall of Famer in her sport.
Tony Fields, dancer and musician, one of the original Solid Gold dancers, backup dancer on Michael Jackson videos, including Beat It. One of the early AIDS victims.
these people I barely know, met once or twice; Wulff I knew him when he was a little kid
Carol Greider MD, Nobel Laureate (also UCSB)
Ron Bryant, MLB pitcher (SF Giants), led NL in a fake stat, 24 wins, in 1973
Paul Wulff, college and pro football coach, head coach at Eastern Washington and Washington State
Jason Fisk, NFL d-lineman, Minnesota Vikings
Jonathan Segel, rock musician, Camper Van Beethoven
These I have never met
Nick Watney, pro golfer, five PGA tour wins
Jalil Anibaba, MLS soccer player
Sam Reynolds, former MLS player
Nate Boyden, briefly a MLS player
a few assorted olympians, doctors, business people and sex offenders. Carol is by far the most important, Franti the most famous, Denise the greatest athlete (and I could beat her one-on-one, but not at H-O-R-S-E, great shooter.)

Re: Notable Alumni From Your High School
I haven't thought about Ron Bryant (baseball-reference page) in many years (and today is his birthday.) His was the first +90mph fastball I ever saw close up (age 15, standing in the batters box while he threw an off-season session.) Immediately following his breakout season, he proceeded to drink himself out of the game.
Nearly killed himself in a bizarre accident. One night during spring training 1974, he was wasted, hanging out at the motel swimming pool. He went down the slide, lost his balance, and the edge of the bottom of the slide dug into his torso, slicing him open. Tremendous blood loss, some 200 stitches (iirc, don't quote me on that.) He only missed a few weeks, but reportedly drank constantly during his recuperation. Was out of baseball within two years. He was a fixture at the local bars for the next several years, several DUIs, bar fights, fucking dismal. I thought it was so odd, to see such a story that was a staple of fiction and Sports Illustrated play out in real life in my little home town.

Re: Notable Alumni From Your High School
High School I graduated from it's basically Elinor Purrier who is a distance runner at UNH. Otherwise no one that did anything athletically anywhere higher than DIII or NAIA. Other than some state politicians from yesteryear, I'm probably one of the more famous (most return to the shithole town for some reason.)
The HS I went to for 9-10 there are a shit load of Olympians, including the Shea family of gold medal winners (most recently in the 2002 Skeleton races.)

Slight threadjack here, but here's a question for Daddy Swampers. If you don't live now in the same town as your high school, do you tend to start following your kids' high school athletics? I'm saying this b/c although I keep tabs on my old stomping grounds, I do look up to see what my kids' eventual school is doing, even though they're 8 years away at the earliest. Maybe b/c I'm in a different state now.

Ha! But our current town one the State Championship just a few years ago! We have a semi-pro baseball team, one of those summer leagues full of college prospects, that plays in our town. I keep telling my son we will go see a couple of innings so he can see what baseball is supposed to look like. He keeps saying he likes baseball, but I can't get him to watch even the 2 minute Yanks/Mets highlights on the evening news.
