Pretty F'ing cool
Not the wish that was granted but the fact that 3000 members of the Timber's Army showed up. 10-9 final probably meant Timber Joey had some work to do.

Very cool.
A couple of my wife's co-workers have apparently very recently become obsessed with the Timbers, via videos of the supporter's club. I told her they should head to Harrison (NJ) because the Red Bulls supporter section is pretty crazy too (and much closer), but they love the guy sawing wood after goals and are trying to work out a trip to Portland.

That's a great story. Major kudos for all of the people that put that together and for the 3,000 people who showed up to make it even more special.

Here's Will Johnson and the kid after they exchanged jerseys.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

Really bummed I missed it, but a bunch of my friends went.

Couldn't figure out how to embed it, sorry
ETA: Watching those kids enter the locker room was awesome.

That's an awesome story. Love seeing shit like this...

it sure as hell won't be the last. And of course, first team to say no will be a HUGE villain.A Make-A-Wish Oregon spokeswoman says it is the first time it has ever granted a game against a professional sports team.

I'm in tears in my office watching that video. My coworkers better not need anything for a while.

I doubt Make-A-Wish would publicize a team saying no. They probably get turned down all the time and I've never heard about the "no's" to them ever.ZMan wrote:That's an awesome story. Love seeing shit like this...

Make-A-Wish is a pretty amazing organization. They do stuff with sports all of the time. I think it was a few years ago they got the Seattle Sounders involved in a Seattle kid who wanted to be a superhero
A co-worker's wife works for Make-A-Wish in my area. She puts on events like this. I have talked to her about it. She loves when she can do something the kid really wants to do (like trips to Disney, etc), but in some cases the parents are pushing an agenda and creates some problems (like trips to see family or go places the kids don't really want to go). She interviews the kids as part of the process to make sure they are creating something special for the kid and not the parents.

I know she's only 5, but I swear, she told me she wanted to go to Vegas!
