Re: 2015 MLS
Lots of people predicted Ricketts was going to be LA's undoing. I didn't see the first flub but I did see the last goal. Peneda would've had a play on that.
Re: 2015 MLS
MLS' website actually put up a feature on the call.DaveInSeattle wrote:Here's the play in question: https://streamable.com/ndbr?t=8.5DaveInSeattle wrote:
Still waiting to hear an explanation as to what happened with the Sounders "non-goal" late in the 1st half. It was odd...the teams kinda stopped playing, but then the Ref never blew the whistle, and the Sounders pounced on the ball and put it in the net. Then the Galaxy players surrounded the linesman and the Ref, and the goal was waved off. I would guess that it was called as offsides, but the flag was never up. Very strange...

Thank God I pvr-d that atrocity. Only wasted 45 minutes or so watching Toronto FC play like my a=daughter's house league team (and not the rep squad).wlu_lax6 wrote:after game 1 of night 2

The first Impact goal only occurred because 4 or 5 Toronto FC players made huge errors, culminating with a clueless keeper making a fool of himself. And it went on from there.
Just an inexcusable performance.

That shoot-out was all around nutso. Can't ask for better drama than coming down to keepers facing off against each other.

That was one of the craziest things I've ever seen. We started watching with about 15 minutes left in Regulation, which is when it started going BANANAS!P.D.X. wrote:That shoot-out was all around nutso. Can't ask for better drama than coming down to keepers facing off against each other.
How the one KC pk didn't go in....after hitting both posts....is beyond reason.
Re: 2015 MLS
And that was just one of 3 chances they had to end it. The odds on that are just mind-boggling.DaveInSeattle wrote:How the one KC pk didn't go in....after hitting both posts....is beyond reason.
Re: 2015 MLS
The Baggio-esq shank over the top boggles my mind. I don't get players who go high on PKs. A good low PK is unstoppable even if guessed by the goalie. Going high just adds to risk

I was about to fall asleep at the end of regulation. And nope. We stayed up for the entire ET, and then was like "alright, just get out of here...." and the defending on that Urruti goal was just atrocious.P.D.X. wrote:And that was just one of 3 chances they had to end it. And then with PKs, I think it took me 30 minutes to fall asleep after that. What a freaking game. Definitely worth staying up for.

Re: 2015 MLS
Didn't realize Kreis had been canned. NYCFC's front office is clearly out of their element — no understanding what it takes to build an MLS franchise from the ground up. I hope they hire Capello and then sack him after one unsuccessful season.

I'm sorry it didn't work out for Jason. I haven't been paying much attention to NYCFC, but did he do anything there that hurt his reputation?P.D.X. wrote:Didn't realize Kreis had been canned. And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

No, besides not winning enough. The rumor mill has him moving to Seattle or Toronto.
Re: 2015 MLS
Probably but I also bet he was expecting to have Lampard the whole season.mister d wrote:He had a lot of say in the expansion draft, right?
Re: 2015 MLS
What's the intent of expansion drafts in MLS, to compete now or build for the future? Aside from Mullins (and maybe McNamara?) it doesn't seem to be setting them up all that well.
Re: 2015 MLS
Seems like teams were looking at solid 90 minute role players (i.e. Lewis Neal) with low salary and trade value players (Ricketts)mister d wrote:What's the intent of expansion drafts in MLS, to compete now or build for the future? Re: 2015 MLS
For the most part it's to put together a competent core. You're mostly picking from fringe players, journeymen, and aging talent (although it seems like there's usually a steal or two). You can tell more about an expansion team's ambitions by their DP and other outside-the-drafts signings.mister d wrote:What's the intent of expansion drafts in MLS, to compete now or build for the future? Re: 2015 MLS
Brutal loss last night for the Sounders. Had the series won, but gave up a tying goal in stoppage time, and lost in PK's.
Dallas just looked like the better team. Younger, and way way way faster. Diaz and Castillo were better than anyone on the Sounders. Sounders looked old and slow, especially Obafemi Martins. He was a complete non-factor.

I say this with all seriousness, but I hope Caleb Porter is the next USMNT coach. I think by fall 2018 he might be ready.

Re: 2015 MLS
We go right from MLS Cup into MLS Silly Season...
Pontius goes to Philly from DC (Pontius able to keep 400K salary)
DC gets Neagle from Sounders. (DC goes from 400K to 160K salary player for similar production..but maybe less upside if Pontius can stay healthy)
some allocation money gets exchanged in the deal.
60 players are in for the re-entry drafts (i.e. the DC United roster building system). Players selected in Stage 1 of the Re-Entry Draft will be able to sign with their new club for their current contract option for 2016. Players unselected in Stage 1 will be eligible for Stage 2; picks from Stage 2 will negotiate new deals with their new clubs.

Jorge Villafaña to Santos Laguna for $1 mil. Basically he was an add-on in a deal with Chivas a couple years back, so this is a nice flip, but sucks to lose such a talent at LB. Be surprised if Jurgen doesn't give him a look.
