Altidore back in the league should be good for MLS.

Re: 2015 MLS
I don't really care where Jozy goes (although it's a bit ridiculous that the league is putting it's 2nd high-profile USMNT signing in Canada), but the way they keep handling USMNT allocation is bullshit. Different rules have been applied for Dempsey, Bradley, Jones, and now Jozy, simply because they have a predetermined destination for them but want it to appear like they don't. Probably the #1 thing that most discredits MLS.

Yup. I understand trying to even out the distribution of USMNT players among the conferences and the "big" teams, but it's absolutely ridiculous.P.D.X. wrote:I don't really care where Jozy goes (although it's a bit ridiculous that the league is putting it's 2nd high-profile USMNT signing in Canada), but the way they keep handling USMNT allocation is bullshit. 1. I like having a player named Mix to root for.
2. Is this Roldan or "bad pick" for NYCFC?

Re: 2015 MLS
Why do #1 and #2 teams to pick need to deliberate on the clock so long?
NY just called for a timeout!

Haven't followed this but assuming they traded for one and won the coin flip for the other.mister d wrote:Also, why did Orlando pick first in the expansion draft and superdraft?
Re: 2015 MLS
I'm assuming they're stalling for a trade-down offer.
Re: 2015 MLS
Damn. It was a longshot but was hoping Shelton would fall to Timbers at #5.

Re: 2015 MLS
So a 28 year old player, Sebastion Giovinco, who has been in the Italy setup lately, is joining MLS. This is odd.

Re: 2015 MLS
Right? So TOR is now going to have him, Jozy, Bradley, and Gilberto. The salares of those 4 will eclipse the entire salaries of other individual teams.AB_skin_test wrote:So a 28 year old player, Sebastion Giovinco, who has been in the Italy setup lately, is joining MLS. This is odd.

Toronto has to get rid of Gilberto, I believe. Can only have three DPs.P.D.X. wrote:Right? So TOR is now going to have him, Jozy, Bradley, and Gilberto. At the moment, but there's still a new CBA in the works and many speculate an additional or hybrid DP will be added.

Re: 2015 MLS
Does this make sense to you MLS experts?
http://screamer.deadspin.com/mls-is-put ... llyhaisley
It seems logical to me, but until Toronto gets a defender who can defend, this team goes nowhere.

I just can't get fully behind an MLS team because of stupidity like this.

Re: 2015 MLS
I was thinking about it yesterday too, and I was wrestling with the salary cap vs. no salary cap idea. Ultimately, I'm not sure how angry I can get about it because I'm used to big players going to other teams because the Royals aren't ever in the running for big free agents. Though with the salary cap, I understand that there's the outright statement that everyone is on level footing when that's clearly not the case.govmentchedda wrote:I just can't get fully behind an MLS team because of stupidity like this.
Maybe MLS just needs to relax the salary cap rules and make this look like it fits within the structure of the league a little better.

Same. Hard to really buy into caring about the MLS when they direct where the best players go for whatever reasons they so direct. I am close enough to DC that starting to care for DC United is an option, but hard to make the effort given how banana republic the player movement seems to be.

Re: 2015 MLS
OK, more thought on it. Is it simply because of the salary cap structure of MLS?
I'm not condoning what they're doing by any stretch. But we're mostly European soccer fans here and no one is claiming that the system in Europe is anything close to being fair... yet that isn't seen as a stumbling block to fandom. Why would a similar structure in MLS, where the teams with the most "power" are given the positions to get the best players, be something that is now a big deal? Simply because of the cap or because of something else?
This legitimately intrigues me.

Re: 2015 MLS
It's not the salary cap as much as that it's that the league owns so much of the league, and willy nilly assigns players wherever the fuck they want. That they make restrictive rules, then change them as the wind blows, gives me little confidence in the league. I also notice a big difference in the play vs. the European leagues, hate plastic pitches, and think that not having promotion and relegation is dumb.

I'm rooting for a team that has ties to Man City and the Yankees and plays inside New York City. I'm thinking a fixed league won't hurt me that much.

You should be fine if parent club ever allows Fat Frank to cross the pond. Even if they don't, you've got dreamy Mix to fall in love with.mister d wrote:I'm rooting for a team that has ties to Man City and the Yankees and plays inside New York City. If after the Montreal/RB trade, the latter doesn't pull Sasha Kljestan back to MLS, no es bueno.

Sporting KC announces the signing of Servando Carrasco. If you are the significant other of a USWNT player, Kansas City is the place to be!

It's official!
I am off the Toronto Fc waiting list and now have the opportunity to buy season tickets!
As a polite Canadian, the response will be "No thank you."

With Garth Lagerway gone, every other big market team landing big names, and the continued aging of the team, this is just another reason for me to be discouraged about the upcoming year(s).P.D.X. wrote:Joao Plata out for RSL with fractured metatarsal. That's gonna hurt.

Everyone can breathe now, season's starting on time.
Re: 2015 MLS
Its cool the new CBA actually benefits a decent portion of the membership with the minimum wage raise versus just upping the up for the best players.
Re: 2015 MLS
Based on what I read the membership split and some folks were not real happy. At least they got it done. Work stoppage would have been very bad for the MLS. Especially with the TV deals.
