I absolutely love this show, but Sheridan has a knack for being a fucking creep. ALL of the stuff with the daughter is cringe. I don't mind Ali Larter being a ridiculous slut, but the girl being underage and half-naked for almost 2 full episodes was totally unnecessary to the advancement of the plot. (She's also featured in one of the Yellowstone prequels but is not half-naked so I almost didn't recognize her.)

So, Sheridan is a topic almost for an entire thread. I have now watched/am watching:
I haven't watched Tulsa King (plan to) and Lawmen: Bass Reeves (meh). I guess there's another one called The Last Cowboy.
Dude can weave a good tale, for sure. He is on the opposite end of the spectrum from subtle. He will absolutely hammer a point home to the point that it gets fucking annoying. (Yellowstone is relentless in letting us know the days of the cowboy and ranching are numbered.) And as mentioned in the spoiler above, he's VERY gratuitous with the T 'n A. Almost like a throwback to the 80s where you're watching whatever show and out of nowhere the female lead is taking a shower or changing clothes and... huh, naked time? It's a little off-putting.
The other thing I find annoying is that he puts himself in his shows. He's particularly prominent in Yellowstone. He's not exactly a terrible actor, but he's also not very good. And when you know it's him, it takes you out of the story. He shows up in Lioness and it's like, dude, can you not?

I like the one season standalone 1923 and 1883 miles better than whatever fuck it is the Yellowstone has become. Tulsa King doesn't do it for me, but I can see the appeal.
Oh, and it makes sense given the past couple of comments, but I've never thought he could write a female character very well.
Monica has been done dirty over and over on Yellowstone. Beth is fine but he writes her like a man would write a woman who acts like a man. The lady who Jamie got involved with in the latest couple of seasons was nearly 0-dimensional. The best female characters were the youngish lady from 1883, the Gov/Senator in Yellowstone and Helen Mirren in 1923, but that's more through her skill than anything.
I think there's a fairly good chance Sheridan is a bit of hack. His shit is the CBS sitcoms of "edgy, man stuff". But he's made a lot of money off of it, so it works for enough people.

Yeah I’m not much of a fan of Sheridan’s tales as they all tend to weave into the victim complex of the aggrieved, republican white male. I’m not saying he’s a hack or anything, cuz he’s smart enough to play it down the middle, but yeah, fuck that. There’s far too much engaging content out there for me to have to switch off to tolerate that.

This is where I'm at. I have 3 more episodes to go, and while I was excited when the final half-season came out, it's been a huge letdown. Partially, I binged it after the first half of the final season was released, and I didn't realize their was another half season, so I never had a long forced break. I started this season not remembering where it ended last season. I'm finding I really don't care about the major story line, which it feels like I really should for obvious reasons. (Don't want to spell it out as a spoiler).
I absolutely love some aspects of the show, but others are pure dreck. The scenery and some of the daily interactions of the cowboys are great. Some of the plotlines border on Soap Opera level cheese. Beth was a cool badass, but also crazy at first, but man did she become a way over-the-top cartoon character. Just ridiculous.
The final season is just hitting you in the face with the "your job won't exist in 10 years" stuff. I get this show was his love story towards the Cowboy way of life, but man, we get it, you don't need to have several people full on say the words. And the political moralizing is a bit much at times, mostly the entirety of Piper Perabo's character. A shell of a cartoon character of how Conservatives view Liberals. She is a complete moron with seemingly no life outside of her dumb protest. Her final scene was just laughably dumb and showed her as nothing more than the outline of an idea of a person. I mean, she had nowhere to go and nobody else in her life? I feel like he tries to be apolitical, but it's not to hard to see his beliefs. Which is fine, but so fucking shallow.
Like others said, I'm just slogging through to finish. Haven't watched anything else of Sheridan's but I plan on eventually watching the prequels and Landman. The cast is unreal.

We stumbled across the third season of Deadwood showing on some HBO channel so we finished that season and then watched the 2019 movie.
Otherwise we've been getting caught up on Silo, Bad Sisters, and Skeleton Crew - and about to start Black Doves.
We've also been losing ourselves in mindless fiction, like a Stargate SG-1 rewatch. I feel we'll be doing a lot of that over the next few weeks and months.

I had to Google Taylor Sheridan. I've never seen any of his shows, but I loved both Sicario and Hell or High Water and he wrote both of them.

I think he’s better with limited narratives. Those moves are great but two hours is probably easier to put all the good stuff in and take out the odd things.

There were so many mentions of Michelob Ultra that it felt like I was listening to a sponsored podcast. I get product placement, but this was ridiculous.

Having throwback style tv series pulling me in
The Pitt-- I mean noah wyle as a doctor in an emergency room....feels familiar. It is actually pretty compelling. Figured there would be some locations near my folks place and dad's office.
On Call-- Eriq La Salle (who is the director...but not playing an ER doc), Lori Loughlin. 2 episodes in and enjoying it

It's so goddamn good. Finished a re-watch of season 1 over the last few weeks and then went season finale after work tonight straight into season 2 episode 1.

Finally watched Shogun, loved it. Yabushige is the best despite boiling an dude alive, but I think my resting countenance for the next 4 years could best be described as “Blackthorne face.” Just constantly beat up, glassy eyed and vaguely stunned/confused/bemused.
I think the very start of the show when the lord (emperor? I forget) felt dissed by a comment by a subordinate, so obviously the corrective course of action is to end said subordinate’s lineage. This meant a baby had to be ripped from its mother’s arms to be killed. Oh, but there were some compassionate words from a woman in leadership before it happened.
Wife gave up on the show there. So I had to watch the rest on my own. Not quite done with the season.

Shogun was on my own, but in other belated Hulu news my wife and I are part way through season 2 of Only Murders in the Building and that’s a lot of fun. We also started Reacher and he is just a delight. Only misstep so far was him getting sorta self-righteous about his military service when someone questioned an “incident” in his past. Otherwise I like watching him beat up dudes and hearing my wife sharply inhale anytime he’s partially or completely unclothed.
Bored this afternoon so giving Day of the Jackal a try and there was a camera trick with a mirror in the first 10 minutes that understated and super cool. Need something to watch while on the bike now that Shogun is done.

I’m starting Eastbound and Down for the first time since I initially tried it when it came out originally. The first episode really turned me off back then, but after watching his other series, I figured I’d like it more now and I do. Plus all the blooper reels on social media from this show crack me up.
