Hmmm. I could be convinced that 6 under will lead at this point.

So Guan was notified he was out of position on #10. Warned later, and got a slow play penalty on 17. I think that's fairly reasonable.

As of right now, only 30 players would miss the cut.

Tiger on the 15th. I've never seen that before; brilliant wedge in to the green, hits the flag stick, bounces into the water. Unfuckinglucky.

I agree.

Cam Cole, Vancouver Sun, certainly does not agree:

Tiger may be DQ'd from his drop after he hit the stick. In his press conference he said he dropped two yards back from where he hit the first one when he only was allowed a yard.

I thought the issue was that he had to line up with the spot where the ball last went into the hazard. It seemed to kick pretty hard to the left, at least it appeared that way on TV.

You can drop any where back along that line, or from immediately behind where it first crossed, or as near as possible to where you originally took the shot. The issue is whether he was 'near as possible'.

I bet he's DQ'd. They don't want it to seem that they are playing favorites, so once the question is raised, I feel if there's doubt, he's out.

For what it's worth, on the replay it looks like his second shot was about an arm's length away from the divot that presumably was his first shot.

Also, I always thought the club length was the rule of thumb when it comes to stuff like this.

Two shot penalty for Tiger. Okay then.

But I think it's fine. I mean, Robert Garrigus could have moved his ball 20 times yesterday and nobody would know.

Not surprisingly, nobody on TV seems capable of distinguishing between rules that are subject to interpretation and rules that are not subject to interpretation. The rule against signing an incorrect scorecard is (or was) not subject to interpretation. The rule requiring a drop as close as possible is not only hopelessly subjective but also extremely difficult to prove even where there is TV evidence.

The talking heads on TV also do not know the difference in rules between a red hazard and a yellow hazard; yesterday they gave the yellow rules for red and the red rules for yellow on at least two occasions, one of which was the failed explanation of Tiger's options after the flagstick incident.

The one issue that I have is that the rules got changed along the way. Or at least the interpretation got changed. Tiger wasn't given a penalty at the time; the rules gerbils decided he did nothing wrong, and then, after the fact, they changed their mind.

Not the first, or worst, time something this pansy-ass has happened. The PGA cost Dustin Johnson a major by an (arguably) silly ruling at the 2010 PGA Championship.

Augusta National took the blame by saying its rules committee reviewed a video before Woods finished his round Friday and determined his drop was within the rules.

Then they should live with that decision. If it's your fault, it's your fault. Man up to it.

The club said a television viewer prompted the review.

This is fucking bullshit. And not the first time it happened. That nonsense has to stop.

I'm surprised he said this.. or didn't know the rules? Because the committee has deemed it ok until he said this.

Holy shit. Look at that! What a cheater. Why, that was an entire stride away from his previous spot. Everyone knows a 118 yard shot from a perfect lie is completely different than a 117 yard shot from a perfect lie.

Hey, the first time around, from 117 yards, he hit the ball 117 yards and hit the flag. If he hits that shot from 118 yards out, it ends up right next to the hole.

(Actually, where did his next shot go? Was it close enough to tap in?)
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

Within a couple of feet. As close to a tap-in as you see at Augusta. Effectively, he hit an identical shot; itself quite a feat.

The kid need to par 17 and 18 in order to break 300.

73+75+77+74=299 would be a remarkable score.
