Up the Pool (or maybe just not Get Relegated)
So taking the Mrs. and Kids to Dulles airport this morning and ended up behind a silver Lexus with the license plate BPOOL FC. Now it was an older lady driving the car, but could not come up with another reason to have those plates.
Re: Up the Pool (or maybe just not Get Relegated)
Blackpool needs some help to not get relegated. They play at Blackburn tomorrow, which is good news since that club is an even bigger joke than the way Blackpool is run.

Liked the Men in Blazers interview (podcast) with Orient's owner that was posted yesterday.
Re: Up the Pool (or maybe just not Get Relegated)
Huge game in Blackpool today, as the Tangerines hosted the Ian Holloway-led Crystal Palace at Bloomfield Road.
I couldn't follow the game closely via Twitter, but Blackpool midfielder Barry Ferguson was sent off in the 42nd minute. The game was level at zero at the half. But winger Matty Philips, who hasn't played well this season, netted a goal from outside the penalty box in the 85th minute to give the Seasiders the huge win.
The Championship table is extremely tight. Blackpool sit in 15th place, but are only three points above the final relegation place. Three teams have 50 points, and fortunately Blackpool has a comfortable seven goal differential between the second team with 50 points. They have a tough run in, as they play at Nottingham Forest (5th), vs. Burnley (10th), vs. Sheffield Wednesday (feat. Stu Holden!) (21st), at Brighton and Hove Albion (6th), vs. Derby County (13th) and end at Bolton (8th).

Re: Up the Pool (or maybe just not Get Relegated)
Another draw on the road against a Playoff team. Pool starting to find form again, but way too late. That being said, I track Boro also as there is a co-worker who supports them. 4 points separate them (Pool in 17th and boro in 9th). The middle of the table is packed and Boro's +2 GD can make them pop a bunch of places very quickly.
Re: Up the Pool (or maybe just not Get Relegated)
Blackpool led 1-0 at the half, but Forest scored in the 82nd minute on a penalty to level. Blackpool's Isaiah Obsourne was given a straight red in the second half, which Paul Ince has called "laughable". The team is appealing the red card.

Re: Up the Pool (or maybe just not Get Relegated)
A 1-0 win today vaults the Pool into 12th place, at least according to the Live Table.
Still only 5 points about relegation, but with 4 games to go and a bunch of teams below them, I'm hoping they are ok.

Maybe on 5 points above relegation but only 9 points (and 5 on the GD) from 6th place and the promotion playoff. I know it is not likely but very interesting in the middle of the table.Steve of phpBB wrote:A 1-0 win today vaults the Pool into 12th place, at least according to the Live Table.

Re: Up the Pool (or maybe just not Get Relegated)
Blackpool were creamed by Brighton Hove and Albion 4-1 this past weekend. They are four points above the final relegation spot with two games to go.
Cardiff City have already been promoted, and Hull City look likely to get the second automatic promotion spot. They are four points ahead of Watford with two to go. Watford, Brighton, Bolton and the Ian Holloway-led Crystal Palace are all in playoff promotion spots, with Leicester City and Nottingham Forest both within two points of the last playoff spot.
Right now, Wolverhampton occupy the last relegation spot, but Blackburn are only two points above the drop zone. I wonder if two teams have ever been relegated from the EPL and then the Championship in sequential years at the same time. Personally, I would rather see the chicken botherers relegated instead of Wolves. I have a soft spot for Wolves since they're the team I took over in FM10 and lead them to CL glory.
Blackpool should be safe, but it's been a poor year for them. It will be interesting to see if they sell Tom Ince and if so, if Paul Ince will stay on as manager. But their number one priority should be fixing the pitch. It's safe to say the poor pitch cost them more than a few points this year.

Hasn't Wonga sponsored the Pool for a while? My EPL Blackpool jersey has the big Wonga label on the front.

The EPL season was the first year Wonga was their sponsor. I think they renewed the agreement last year, but I don't know for how long.Steve of phpBB wrote:Hasn't Wonga sponsored the Pool for a while? My EPL Blackpool jersey has the big Wonga label on the front.

Nothing like a a payday loan and short-term high-interest credit company on the front of your kit.

That is one depressing article. Makes you almost want to find another team to support (but that would feel just wrong).Sabo wrote:ESPN FC writes about Blackpool's misfortunes since their one-year appearance in the EPL.

Re: Up the Pool (or maybe just not Get Relegated)
If things play out dismally, and they are relegated to League One, perhaps we could buy the club. I know an investment banker in London (although he is a gooner).wlu_lax6 wrote:That is one depressing article. Re: Up the Pool (or maybe just not Get Relegated)
A couple of Blackpool notes:
1. Barry Ferguson has signed a new one-year deal with a team option for a second year.
2. Youngsters Adam Dodd and Tom Barkhuizen have signed new contracts, too. Barkhuizen has been on loan spells the last two years but might see some playing time with the Seasiders this season.
3. Blackpool plays rivals Preston North End in the first round of the Capital One Cup (the League Cup) in early August. It's their first meeting in a few years since PNE was relegated to League One. Oh, and guess who's PNE's manager? The one and only Simon "Larry" Grayson, who lead Blackpool when they were promoted from League One to the Championship.
4. Blackpool will play Newcastle United at Bloomfield Road in a pre-season friendly on July 28. FUCK THE TOON ARMY.

Re: Up the Pool (or maybe just not Get Relegated)
Pool have a quick turn around. Cup match today. 2:$0 on BeIN.
Re: Up the Pool (or maybe just not Get Relegated)
well that was a quick Capital One Cup. Late header by PNE sends the Pool out. I caught 25 minutes of the first half. Pool had the possession and some chances playing long balls to Ince. But Lots of Rt 1 and long ball football. Not the most attractive game.
Re: Up the Pool (or maybe just not Get Relegated)
more from the game yesterday. Preston fans invaded the pitch after the game.

5 games in, top of the table and only 2 points lost so far (late goal against boro for a draw). Survived transfer season with younger Ince not moving to the EPL, and 3 BIG points against Watford this weekend.
Re: Up the Pool (or maybe just not Get Relegated)
There are some rumors floating around Blackpool that Blackpool FC may be sold to a Russian family. I hope that's the case ... the Oystons have really pillaged the team financially.

Blackpool has received five red cards in their last two games, and now has eight reds on the season. Today, their starting back line featured two left backs and two midfielders.
They lost to Derby County today 5-1 after sporting a 1-0 lead at half time.
