if the ocean city nor'easters win tonight, they travel to the city of brotherly love and face-off against the union.
i might have to find out when that is and show some support for the home-town nor'easters.

Looks like they're up late. I think their stadium (shared with the HS?) is located such that you can pretty much watch the games from the boardwalk.

So Atlanta is coming into town next Tuesday.
It would be nice if RSL can actually get out of the first round for a change.

Round 3, bitches!
Rapids looking to be the first MLS casualty, down 3:1 and playing with 10 vs. Orlando City.
And DCU is in extra time vs. Richmond.

RSL finally survives the round.
They scored in the third minute, then gave up the tying goal in the 88th, then scored two in OT.

My Rowdies knocked off the Sounders. The first time that Seattle hadn't made the US Open Cup final in their 5 years of existence. Take that, Drew Carey!

LA has been eliminated too.
Sporting plays Orlando City next week. Four players, including Dom Dwyer, are being loaned to Orlando from SKC and can't play. I should be there -- I don't think we have to start paying for Open Cup games until the next round if we continue to host.

Did you go? I watched a bit of the match through the Timbers feed. I guess the Rowdies aren't much of a draw in Portland?P.D.X. wrote:Beauty of a goal here...

I did go. The crowd was weak-sauce because:govmentchedda wrote:Did you go? I watched a bit of the match through the Timbers feed. I guess the Rowdies aren't much of a draw in Portland?
- the tickets were rather expensive ($25+) and not included in season ticket packages (the previous round USOC match was)
- many people went to the USMNT match in Seattle the night prior
- it was poorly advertised
That said, props to the Rowdies for having a noticeable supporter section. Also thought they played some rather attractive soccer at times.

I'm pretty sure some of Ralph's Mob are also in American Outlaws, and made it a two match trip. Would have been a fun one. The squad is good, but one thing that stuck out to me was the size difference. We've got a bunch of small guys. The Timbers, not so much.P.D.X. wrote:I did go. RSL hosting Carolina in about 40 minutes. Thanks to the Hawks winning Monday, I'm finally able to make a game.
Tix must be a hard sell. We have sixth-row seats in the shade for 25 bucks. And free hot dogs too.

Someone just flipped a coin and determined that the final will be at the home field of the RSL:Portland winner. Semifinals are next week.

We are leaving for a trip the morning after next week's game, so I've been struggling over whether to get tickets. But we decided this morning to give it a try.

Re: 100th US Open (also about soccer)
The coin flip was irrelevant if DC beats Chicago as DC did not bid for the final. RFK has a few other events scheduled for the time windows for the final.
DC Needs to make the final and win to have any sort of happy thoughts for this season.

DC United (beat Chicago) will visit Real Salt Lake (beats Portland) for the title.
Re: 100th US Open (also about soccer)
RSL has to the be the big favorite in this game. However DC win would be a big boost for a team that has just had a long long long bad season.

Hope I can find a good one of DC lifting the trophy or scoring or such but if not this could do the trick.
Re: 100th US Open (also about soccer)
Looking forward to this game because A) I need an excuse to go hit on a specific waitress at the Delightful Porpoise {campus sports bar} that only works weekdays and B) Assuming RSL wins and they double up with either Supporters Shield or finals appearance, a CCL berth will trickle down the table, likely benefiting PTFC.

As I think this week demonstrates, DC "United" is even phonier than Real Salt Lake.

I'm trying (honestly), but I can't get that avatar picture to work.
Can you PM me another link to it, and I'll put it on.
Ugh, though. It's been a long time since I've been that discouraged after a game. And I don't know if I'll be able to get my 13yo son to come again - he stopped coming because he can't really handle the grief when the team loses. So I can only convince him to come to more significant games. Which are more disappointing when they lose.
But hats off to DC. They knew what they had to do, and they held firm and did it.

Steve.
I did not watch the game. What was the story on the Rimando card. Sounds like it should have been a red but I have not seen any video of the incident.

Re: 100th US Open (also about soccer)
It was really late in the game, and Nick was the only RSL player behind the center line. Some DC guy got the ball with only Nick to beat, and Nick set a pick and the guy ran into him. He was pretty far out from the box, but I do think Nick was the last defender.wlu_lax6 wrote:Steve.

So if it was a real foul, then I think a red card probably should have been issued. But I'm not sure if it was a foul.
Or, perhaps it was ruled obstruction, which is not a direct free kick foul, and may be why a yellow was issued.
But the ref was basically swallowing his whistle all night, so I think he just really wanted to avoid making any significant calls.
