I like the new format. It has me much more interested in the Champions League than the old format did. I think it will make the last couple of match days more interesting. But what I like most about it is that somebody will be in 36th place.

I do think that if this succeeds, it’s a template for whatever they end up calling the combined B1G/SEC.

All joking aside I think the B1G and SEC are too Coke and Pepsi for that though I could see the ACC joining the SEC and Big 12 joining the B1G for two megaconferences.

watched my first Champions League game yesterday that wasn't a final (UpTheVilla!) - I think I might enjoy this.

(x-post to confessions thread (or "aging..."): Monday I was scrambling to see which network would televise CL - i was multi-tasking while "working" and quickly googled to find that it'd be on Discovery+. That seemed weird to me but...ok, there's the website with a "Log In" button, I clearly see it. Went thru the thing, there's a great intro offer for .99/month for 3 months, got signed up then searched for CL - nothing. .... I get on a quick chat with their *AI chatbot* which was fun - turns out that was a UK site. I was fking frosted for about a minute then thought "what the living fuck - am i 80??" - figured it out, got Paramount+ for the year ($29 seems quite reasonable even if/when I likely never watch anything but the Villa UCL games)

Yeah, I think Puli was supposed to hit the guy on the near post and hit it too high. Or possibly saw the keeper left the front post open and they didn’t keep a defender here, but I don’t think he was shooting
