Re: NBA 2013

Okay, this drives me nuts every year--when it's Hispanic Heritage Month and instead of actually translating the team names, they just slap "Los" or "El" before it.

I don't think anyone enjoys any part of their job as much as people at Home Depot/Lowe's enjoy telling you they don't carry something.

Russell Westbrook recorded a triple-double in just 21 minutes of playing time last night. The only time in NBA history it was done faster was in 1955, which shouldn't really count.

I've been using BeyondPod, functionality is pretty good except for a bait-and-switch where the free version updates/downloads all feeds simultaneously and you need to buy the full version ($7) in order to download just one at a time.

But you have to take into account the alliances that would inevitably form. You're gonna get some shrewd guys ganging up on the biggest threats. I thought of including Nixon as a dark horse for this very reason. I could see him building a tag team based on national security and economic prosperity,...

Despite it being the capital of my state, I've been there a grand total of once. Two quick things that come to mind are the state capital building (the oldest in the nation) and the Shepard/McAuliffe Planetarium).

Friday Discussion: Presidential Royal Rumble

With Brian resurrecting the Friday discussion last week (Most Beloved Athlete) and getting a pretty healthy response, I thought we could make this a regular thing. Apropos of nothing, I'll share an idea that's been kicking around in my head for a while: If you held a Royal Rumble-style match of all ...

I'll second Pele worldwide and probably Ali in the U.S. As divisive as Ali was in his youth, it seems that all but a few hardcore conservatives revere him nowadays. !00% if your Grandparents came from a crappy country with no winter sports. Or if you are a Brit who can slide off a ski jump ramp without dying. I've always sort of envied people who have that route available. Closest I could come would be if Quebec seceded and dodgeball was made an Olympic sport.

Yeah, most of the blowouts mentioned above were games in which the winner was significantly favored coming in. You'd probably have to go back to Raiders-Redskins (83/84) for the last time a team that was favored, or was at least seen as having an even chance, unraveled so completely.
