By the way an all-Philly parlay today was going off at +1250.

Never a doubt (that I was going to be sweating out the 9th inning)!

A woman down the street is just about the biggest uncritical SF Giants fan I know. Wears team shirts regularly, etc. Rah rah rah, all the time. Now, her son goes to college in San Diego, and I guess that’s good enough reason for her to post a rah rah rah Go Padres! post in Facebook yesterday. I was like, wtf?

The 9th last night was as comfortable as I've felt with the tying run on-deck with our pen since Holmes took his turn in the summer. Not sure if it was the Cleveland offense or Cole warming but it felt safe.

Verlander held a master class about pitching on the black and controlling the top and bottom edges of the strike zone.

Oh and Aaron Boone's gaffe of the evening? Getting away with turning to Clarke Schmidt in the 5th inning in a 1-1 game (he loaded the bases but got out of it on a 1 out DP to end the inning), and then doubling down on that nonsense by trotting him out in the 6th where he promptly gave up back to back HRs (the 0-2 hanging slider to Gurriel was the most LOL pitch I've seen this year).

Re: MLB Postseason 2022
It’s hard to pin an entire game on a manager but this sure feels like an exception. Not that they would have won, but his first-guessed decisions are very well the reason they’d lose.
Re: MLB Postseason 2022
There's the lineup construction (that Boone I guess at least has a voice in?)...Carpenter likely had no business on the roster, much less starting as the DH. Stanton is still the DH, and Cabrera is now your LF (after he took out Hicks last night. Did I rant about that yet? Hicks either needs to carry a megaphone or they need to realize the inbound OF always supersedes the IFers route on a ball.)...mister d wrote: Wed Oct 19, 2022 9:54 pm It’s hard to pin an entire game on a manager but this sure feels like an exception. FWIW Bader's a fucking stud. I can get used to 1-4 and the lone hit being a HR.

Re: MLB Postseason 2022
Lots of very important thoughts:
1. I don't like Stanton in LF. Its not worth the risk, both injury and defensive (I know it didn't hurt them last night) just to get a rusty Carpenter in the lineup.
2. Schmidt has a starter's repertoire that doesn't play up in relief. Just about the last guy you want to bring in to put out a fire and then, after lucking into the DP, having him go back out was a pen saving move that works in the regular season and not the playoffs. Pretty sure the entirety of twitter first-guessed correctly on this one.
3. You cannot lose a 2 run game with the last two hitters being IKF and Trevino in a 9 inning game with a full bench. Like #2 above, it points to Boone simply not recognizing the sense of urgency in a playoff game/series and its not the first time. He shouldn't need an overnight to sit IKF down.
4. My personal hatred of Josh Donaldson aside, boy does he fucking suck. Could have gotten 50 PAs against Verlander last night and I don't imagine his SO% would have changed by very much. If the intent is to put out the best possible lineup every game, you have to go Peraza + Cabrera on the left side and bet on talent. If that fails, it fails, but you already know Donaldson and IKF aren't producing on either side of the ball.
5. Bader has been tremendous and its super fun to have an elite defensive CF for the first time in ... my lifetime? Very fun.
6. Super worried the Yankees are ruining Montas here. He's a good pitcher when he's healthy and he's either still not healthy or he's just not ready to jump back in. Would hate to see this one of those instances where a guy is done by 32 because of bad decisions, especially surrounding a shoulder.
7. Go San Diego ; P

They won't show it but sounds like someone just attacked Altuve and I'm guessing he fucked them up.

Look, I don't really know what I'm talking about here but it appears to me that Matt Carpenter is being put into too many situations he's not entirely prepared for this ALCS.

One of the ones where he got overpowered by 90s heat rather than one of the ones where he flailed at a breaking pitch. Fun to see a real-time example of "the walks are the last thing a hitter loses".
Re: MLB Postseason 2022
I would like to be exceptionally clear that I am not suggesting the Astros are able to control the wind, but the data behind Bregman's HR and Judge's not-HR are enough to convince me we're becoming to you what the Twins are to us.

Re: MLB Postseason 2022
I know this is a joke but was that that a particularly roidy team? Clemens for sure and Giambi but didn't we end up with the PED-less Giambi?

Re: MLB Postseason 2022
Clemens was already through Houston doing steroids. Bagwell and Jeff Kent, wink wink. Berkman? Ensberg? Who knows.
It's a fools errand to assume one team's players did less roids than others.
It was rampant.

Exactly. Frankly I fear Judge is roided up. Let him play out his 30s on some other team.

I used to worry about Miggy but I think he was always legit. I mean he’s declined how you would expect. Especially given that and his era he played in I’ll go to my death bed arguing he was one of the five best right-handed hitters of all-time.
