Re: Random Politics
For the past several weeks I think I've been asked for donations for every democrat running for (re)election, maybe 5x each. Warnock? Probably 5x a day. I've donated what I'm going to donate, but holy shit, this is relentless.

Re: Random Politics
Oddly I have never been asked for cash by Warnock. Not quite sure how that is possible
Re: Random Politics
I have been asked a lot by politicians online, too. But, as for snail mail, holy cow, every charity under the sun is mailing me, begging for money.

I can't find it on the Googles but didn't Charlie Crist get caught doing some gay shit in a bathroom like 15 years ago after campaigning against gay shit?

So because billionaires are giving tons of money to advance right wing causes, you won't contribute to their opposition?

No. The opposition gets my vote, but until we have as many billionaires on our side, I'd be throwing money into the trash. You see how Obama was fired up this past week going state to state and giving speeches? That's what I want out of ALL Democrats. Forceful, angry, and direct fuck you energy. Maybe then I'll contribute money.
The fact that my money would go to people who aren't that fired up (outside of Tim Ryan in Ohio) tells me they don't really care if they lose.
And yet, being questioned about this, I still feel like it's my fault. This is why I stopped being Catholic. Enough with the guilt.

Re: Random Politics
But as Bernie Sanders so well demonstrated, and others in the Dem establishment have now caught on, tons of money can be raised from non-billionaires and non-millionaires. It may or may not be enough to equal what the billionaires are spending, but it can be enough to reach that point where the differences in spending don't matter. But if we want candidates to shy away from relying on money from the billionaires, then we non-billionaires need to step up.Johnnie wrote: Thu Nov 03, 2022 4:46 pmNo. The opposition gets my vote, but until we have as many billionaires on our side, I'd be throwing money into the trash. I found Obama's speech from Wisconsin last week to be hella satisfying. God, it was great to hear him say what he was saying. But he was speaking to a rally of people who are already on the Dem side. It was a speech aimed at Democrats/liberals. Because there are so many more moderates and conservatives than there are liberals, and the close races are (duh) in states where Dems and Rs are roughly even at best, Dem candidates can't be quite as partisan in their speeches as Obama was last week. Instead, they need to sound more like Obama did from 2007-2014.
Still, though - as far as I can tell, all the Dems in the big Senate races have plenty of money. I think the Dems in House races have enough also.
When the Dems lose the House and possibly the Senate, it won't be because you or I didn't donate enough. Nothing that happens will be anyone's fault - the new president's party always recedes in the first midterm election, plus gas and other prices are up and crime is up.

I like to look at it in a more pessimistic way: the average American voter is such a dumb fucking moron that they think an old man in the White House controls everything happening in the world when it's a Democrat because they've been conditioned to believe it.
Then add gerrymandering and voter suppression.
If overturning Roe v Wade doesn't motivate people and give them a glimpse into what could happen to them, it's wrap.
And there isn't an amount of money that can fix that.

Re: Random Politics
Yeah, can't really argue with that. For me, it's just hoping like hell that the Dems can somehow hold onto the Senate so Biden can continue putting judges on the federal bench. And holding out for a miracle that McMullin beats Lee.Johnnie wrote: Thu Nov 03, 2022 5:17 pm I like to look at it in a more pessimistic way: the average American voter is such a dumb fucking moron that they think an old man in the White House controls everything happening in the world when it's a Democrat because they've been conditioned to believe it.

I'd argue Bernie raised tons of money from non-wealthy donors precisely because he's not party-tied. I'd have to audit myself, but I'm pretty certain I haven't given to anyone but him in a decade if not a lot longer.

He rose to the top of the GOP primary heap with Fox working against him, and Fox turned on him after he left office. Trump is more powerful than Fox. I predicted years ago Trump would tear down the entire GOP if they stayed with him, and I'm amazed it hasn't happened yet. I think it's possible it could still happen. If the GOP, RW media and voters start moving towards DeSantis and away from Trump, he will try to destroy everyone that turns on him. He has never given a fuck about the GOP, just pays them lip service of gives them Judges and policies he doesn't care about if it gives him more personal power.
