I’ve only seen them in a festival setting but they were great.

Re: The Live Music thread...
Good to hear. I'm banking on them being a band I like(d) fine enough but play up in a live setting. Leithauser seems like he'd be a performer.

They were good when I saw them at Gentlemen of the Road. Leithauser was pretty great solo as well.

Trying to rally the troops for a hip hop show tonight. If you enjoy the genre at all, check out Open Mike Eagle.

Re: The Live Music thread...
I can't figure out if the presale was a ticketmaster mess or if they were releasing in tiny batches and I was just a click slow over and over for about an hour.

Confession time: I really thought Death Cab for Cutie was just some rando band from around the 2010s. Had no idea they had legit cred to you guys.

We have a long-time team in the league I commish named "Death Cab for Booty" with an amazing avatar and I've decreed he is never allowed to change either.

Re: The Live Music thread...
Partly my boss' fault because she pulled me into a meeting at 11:55 (local time in IL) and by time I was able to get online at 12:25 nothing was available. Assuming they held back a bunch of tickets for the public presale but we'll see I guess.

Re: The Live Music thread...
Thanks for the suggestion, I was able to get a single seat at least which is fine for now. The concert is so far off that I can't worry about who might want to go with me at this point haha.
(I also have a host for the Virgin Hotel, where the concert is in Vegas, so I might have a hookup for free/better seats when it gets a little closer anyway.)

Evergreen post. Is there any other “service” that charges so much for so little benefit?
I am going to buy tickets for a Margo Price show in February at The Fillmore. But rather than buy online, I’m driving up to SF on Sunday to buy them at their box office in the small weekly window they provide where you can avoid those fees.

I just might. Don't know anything about the Vandoliers, but Skippers is a fun location that shut down for a bit during COVID and seemed like it was going to go completely under. I'd love to get back up there.

Is this the band you took the kids to see recently? Looks like the Skippers show is 21+, which kinda sucks because I remember that place being pretty kid friendly.govmentchedda wrote: ↑Fri Dec 16, 2022 4:43 pmI just might. ETA - oh wait, it says 21+ unless accompanied by parent.

It is! And looks like we may be seeing them again tomorrow night. I was on their tour page when I noticed they were playing in Tampa.

Re: The Live Music thread...
We’re in for tomorrow! We are going to the Texas wine country (it’s a thing!) and we knew they were playing a random bar in a random town an hour away. I knew for a while they were playing, but knew it’d be a hard sell since we are going with another family. Cut to today and find out the venue they were supposed to play tonight burned down last night. Since they’re still struggling musicians making money off of merch and tips, the wife was all about it in that scenario. Just got lucky it’s an all ages show. Fuck yeah!

The Vandoliers are really scratching a musical itch I didn't know I had. Avett Brothers meets Dropkick Murphys meets Gaslight Anthem with a little Highwaymen heritage.

GF wanted to go see Social Distorion at Mandalay Bay tonight whom I don’t really like and Five Finger Death Punch (whose fans I hate) and Raiders and Pats fans (same) are playing here today/tomorrow. Can’t catch a break.

I saw Social D something like 25 years ago, and I do remember a lot of jerks in the crowd.

Opener is Chris Shiftlett of Foo Fighters whose music sounds like if you lobotomized BJ Barham but he could still write songs.

You gotta take your hat off to a band for turning two or three half decent songs in the early 90: into a career though.

Re: The Live Music thread...
So this probably belongs in another thread, but whatever. The random politics thread mentions Neal Schon suing Jonathan Cain (Journey) for his wife's fraudulent misuse of band funds...Check out what Schon's been doing with Greg Rollie and some newer guys. The drummer (Deen Castronovo) is vocally a near match to Perry, and he's probably 90% as good as Dunbar and Smith (Journey's previous drummers).
Steve Perry long since left the band cuz he couldn't hack it with the condition of his voice (sorry if I'm minimizing reality here).
