Re: EPL 2022/2023
I wish there were a way to check this (without doing the effort myself), but City's first half seemed extremely typical until the Stones goal. Like early goals are a thing and massive xG without finishing are a thing, but those matches seem to always go into the half 1-0 where I'm like "oh shit, they should have put them away". I can't remember a time where the 2nd one actually came in that 40:00-45:00 range.

Glad I skipped out on work to watch that on my phone because for some reason it was only streaming. At least I got to drink in the afternoon!

Re: EPL 2022/2023
Haaland's ability to get quality shots off so quickly and in such tight spaces is just jaw-dropping, even moreso considering his size.

Re: EPL 2022/2023
The guy is just massive. On the Guardian Football Weekly podcast, they were saying that some pundits were all over Rob Holding for not fouling Haaland on the buildup for KDB's first goal, and their reaction was "He was trying to foul him! But Haaland is too big!".
Re: EPL 2022/2023
I have trouble reconciling how huge Haaland looks out there with knowing he's the same size as D'Angelo Russell / Donte DiVincenzo. Really does test the whole "what if they played soccer instead" thinking.

Can we make more relevant comparisons like John Stockton or John Starks?

For y'all I was thinking Allan Houston but not close and more like Chris childs. Still makes me wonder what if. Not like Allan Houston some unicorn but hes considerably bigger than haaland.

Rex Chapman.
Hold on, I'm trying to see if Jack London ever gets this fire built or not.

Same height. nearly same playing weight. rex was a pretty elite athlete, too.

Re: EPL 2022/2023
A way better athlete than haaland is what I'm saying but that guy is pretty good so possibly?
Re: EPL 2022/2023
That's the path I was on. Haaland just tore up the PL record book and its constantly declared some freak athlete but the NBA has 200 Haalands. Its like seeing a modern day example of Babe Ruth or something and in 50 years every team will have a full depth chart of Haalands (with shittier hair) up front and at CB.

You know who else is nearly the exact same height/weight as Haaland, with some Nordic connections?mister d wrote: ↑Thu Apr 27, 2023 3:16 pm That's the path I was on. Ha. One of my favorites is sending a Tottenham fan friend pictures of Harry Kane that I've put in MS Paint and stretched his head to 3x his body length.

That Spurs equalizer has been in the works for at least 20 minutes. United's defense seems to have fallen asleep in the second half.

Re: EPL 2022/2023
Based on current trends, it’s becoming increasingly likely that NUFC go unbeaten the rest of the season with Brighton being the biggest test. 6 points likely secures Tuesday/Wednesday night football in the fall. Shocking season.

You've got to feel terrible for supporters of teams like Leeds and Forest that waited so long to get back to the Premier League and then struggle mightily and have the axe over their heads.

It was always a long shot, but are you confident Chelsea can get any more points this season? Bournemouth away, Forest home, City away, United away, Newcastle home. I really think they go 0-fer Lampard.Baloney wrote: ↑Sun Apr 23, 2023 9:05 amNo way are of the bottom dwellers getting close to 39 points.govmentchedda wrote: ↑Sun Apr 23, 2023 8:21 am Bold take - Chelsea get perilously close to relegation.
I think 35 points and you will be safe

I mean, not really having a team, and Leeds having 3 prominent Americans on it... Sure sucks to see them struggle this badly. I know it's not an indictment, but it will be used by many to "prove" that Americans aren't ready.

Might pick up points against Forest/Bournemouth, difficult to see any more.govmentchedda wrote: ↑Tue May 02, 2023 4:38 pmIt was always a long shot, but are you confident Chelsea can get any more points this season? Don't think Lampard has done himself and favors here, not sure a Championship side would employ him now.
Pinnacle of his managerial career might have been getting Derby to the play-off final against Villa

This assignment was never going to be easy, but he just isn't a good manager. He looks so miserable too. He and Potter both took years off of their lives managing Chelsea under Boehly.Baloney wrote: ↑Tue May 02, 2023 4:52 pmMight pick up points against Forest/Bournemouth, difficult to see any more.govmentchedda wrote: ↑Tue May 02, 2023 4:38 pmIt was always a long shot, but are you confident Chelsea can get any more points this season? One of the guys on the Guardian Football Weekly pod was speculating that maybe Potter was actually doing a GOOD job with that team.govmentchedda wrote: ↑Tue May 02, 2023 5:40 pmThis assignment was never going to be easy, but he just isn't a good manager.
