Texas State on national TV tonight! Home game v. ASU. Should have good shots of a campus I wasted four years at with a girlfriend the whole time what an idiot!

I feel like asking in Nevada and UNLV makes too much sense not to do.

So the main reason for the zombification of the Pac-12 was its tv deal. But isn't their simple geography the main reason why they couldn't get the big dollars since they couldn't get big viewership? You could conceivably start a game so it would be available for East Coasters would be 11:30 am PT, but then still the East Coast eyeballs would probably choose the more local teams to follow, right?

The first of these dominos (UCLA and USC) dropped while I was watching a then-Football Outsiders podcast, and either Schatz or Tanier suggested that they simply bifurcate football from the rest of NCAA athletics, similarly to what they do for college hockey. Like have the power teams in a East/North/South/West/maybe Central areas, and they sell the tv rights that way. Because let's be honest. Volleyball players flying from L.A. to fucking Piscataway for a conference game mightily sucks.

UNLV not being included IS puzzling but I think they will be in phase 2. UNLV’s AD is deluded into thinking they’re getting an ACC bid though.

Pac X will likely target FB cream of AAC in big cities now. Tulane and Memphis are obvious. UTSA also a likely target.

I just found out that, in college football, the quarterback cannot spike the ball to stop the clock unless there are at least three seconds on the clock. Florida State had just converted a 4th down to get to the Memphis 40-ish with the receiver being tackled with two seconds on the clock. FSU hurried to the line to get off the snap, but the referee then had the clock operator add a second, creating the opportunity for the home team to stop the clock.

The added bonus was that, after FSU spiked the ball, the referee then had the clock operator remove a second from the clock.

Anyway, FSU's last pass was batted down and the 'Noles are 0-3, giving us bonus laughter instead of conspiracy.

I was curious to see who would have the NFL shield in his profile pic and "ESPN" in his handle. Turns out, it's a guy who decided to run a burner that cribbed Ian Rapoport's bio, save for the part about his cameos in "Draft Day".

His bio there says he works for nfl.com . Kinda weird that a guy employed by the league would have espn in his handle and would post a borderline vulgar insult.

I think the two second runoff per play is minimum on a timed down. It’s stupid and makes no sense but I have seen that part before but not the three second to clock it but it kind of makes sense all together.

Had a pickup in Spokane today and didn’t realize EWU is like 15-20 minutes away. Can’t believe they haven’t been wooed to FBS yet. Have to believe that the Mountain West will pitch them hard with all that Pac 12 payoff money they’re going to get (at least $100 million right now)

If say only UNLV and Air Force jump ship MW would still be pretty viable by adding EWU and Montana. Don’t know if they could get Idaho to move back.

I saw a post on X where somebody mused about bringing in the National Guard to Springfield, Ohio to protect the Haitian residents. Somebody else replied that calling out the National Guard in Ohio does not have a great history.

So, it's going to be an Orji-filled weekend as he was named the starter for USC this weekend. Which... I really don't understand why it took Warren throwing 3 picks to bring this about.

Orji is an elite athlete. Even if all he does in the passing game is enough to keep the other team from completely stacking the box, his ability to move the chains, along with Edwards and Mullings, is much more in tune with what this team is capable of on Offense.

(Not going to get into the fact that MI hasn't recruited any decent WRs in the last 3 cycles, and going to what is damn close to a wishbone offense (exaggerating for effect) isn't going to help in this regard.)

Sacramento State is apparently making a big push to get added to the Pac 12. It makes sense. 30,000 students, a great athletic program. Would be the largest media market in the conference.

If any school is situated for a jump from FCS/D1-AA, I’d say a big school in a fairly large city might be one. I’m sure they count on the prestige of a big D-1 conference as a way to recruit. If they’ve got deep-pockets supporters, they could adapt quickly, in this new era of transfer portal and NIL.

OK, but that still sounds like a pretty big leap to go to the Pac-10/12/8. Granted, that's just a brand name now with nothing behind it, but still.

Revenue wise they’re already at par with the “Mountain West 4” moving to the Pac 12. The divide between the top of FCS and the Group of Five in FBS is mostly non-existent.

My understanding of the current, newly changed, cost to jump from FCS to FBS is in the 8 figures level. Unless that changes I don't see anyone making that jump any time soon.
