Yeah, that was awesome.

Re: Random Politics
I know that people tell you to call your house representative and that the more calls they get is supposed to put pressure on them but for anyone that actually does this, how does it work exactly? So, I talk to some staffer and say "The president is allowing a civilian that has strong business ties to Russia and China access to my most private information from the Treasury, IRS, and SSA and that seems very illegal. What is my representative going to do about it?"
Like, will they actually have a conversation with you over it or just give a canned answer and record your inquiry?

It varies, but even if it's a conversation, I doubt it would be very long.Jerloma wrote: Thu Feb 20, 2025 11:31 am I know that people tell you to call your house representative and that the more calls they get is supposed to put pressure on them but for anyone that actually does this, how does it work exactly? Re: Random Politics
I typed a long, angry message to my Representative through his website during the 2014 midterms as he was joining in on the "Obama is going to destroy America by letting in Ebola" craze. I wrote it to vent and assumed I was typing into a void. Within a couple of days he called me! We talked for about 45. He acted like he cared about my opinion. My written submission inflated my expertise as a former attorney for Customs and Border Protection and he was very deferential there. He listened while I told him all of the reasons the Ebola threat was a scare mongering tactic and a dirty trick by the GOP to scare voters. He told me he had a meeting with the CDC in a couple of days, and he would have a better idea of whether it was truly a threat.Jerloma wrote: Thu Feb 20, 2025 11:31 am I know that people tell you to call your house representative and that the more calls they get is supposed to put pressure on them but for anyone that actually does this, how does it work exactly? Did I change his mind at all? No, I think he knew I was right before we spoke, but he was trying to make a name for himself and get on FoxNews more often. I respect him for giving me the time and at least pretending to care. Still not sure what was in it for him. He (Leonard Lance) started as a moderate, sensible Republican but I think he had bigger aspirations than representing suburban Central Jersey in the House. When Trump was running in the primaries, he was anti-Trump, but when Trump was the nominee, he went full MAGA and started fellating Trump regularly on FoxNews. Spineless, self-promoting twerp.

Some good news out of Germany, it looks like a Left Wing coalition will control the government. I’d seen some predictions that the Neo-Nazi AfD (Alternative for Germany) party was expected to make a much stronger push. Musk was rallying for AfD, because a racist, fascist party taking power in Germany can’t go wrong. According to the NYTimes, the strong showing from two parties in the Left was a direct result of fears sparked by Trump, especially his siding with Putin on the invasion of Ukraine.

Man, when you lose Laramie...“What an incredible turnout. It’s very exciting to be back in Laramie, Wyoming, where I went to school. What I would like you to do is, I see a lot of signs around, and I understand what you’re trying to say. I get it. I can read them,” Hageman said before she was interrupted.
“Fuck you! That’s what we’re saying,” someone in the crowd hollered.
From there, the room remained at a rolling boil.
At several points, the crowd broke out into chants, including “tax the rich” and “do your job.”

They're not going to cancel the fucking elections. Too many white people with money would object.
In that respect, this is not 1933 Germany, where democracy had only been around for 15 years.
The Republicans will do what they can to cheat. But there will be elections.

Because there was nothing anyone could do to stop the transfer of power. Even storming the Capitol (or DOJ) wouldn't stop Biden from being sworn in on 1-20-21.

And it turned out I was right. As opposed to the people saying "He'll simply deny their validity, the Republicans will back him and there will eventually be a proper legal appeal."
To be clear, I have no doubt that if the next election is close, the Rs will try all kinds of fuckery at the legislative and judicial level. And they will have a better chance of succeeding than they did in 2020.
That was my point when I said that the Rs will cheat but there will be elections.

Here’s my thinking. If NJ and VA go Dem in ‘25, and there are a few other statewide elections that go D before the midterms, you think they’re gonna set fire to the Reichstag after they lost it in ‘26? Maybe that is the plan so that they can claim the Congress is completely corrupted, but either way, I’d be more surprised if I got to vote in ‘28 than if i didn’t.mister d wrote: Wed Apr 02, 2025 3:57 pm Voting will take place. Not very often you get to see someone realize their future is over the exact moment it happens.
She may end up continuing as Michigan's governor after the 2026 election, but that was pretty much self-immolation of any aspirations.
