I feel bad for Shadeur. But much less so now that I learn Trump is advocating for him.

We’re getting to the “what is there to lose” portion of the draft wrt Shedeur. Like are the Panthers that comfortable with 2 good months of Bryce Young?

If the doesn't get picked tomorrow. The Calgary Stampeders have the first pick on Tuesday.

Do they even announce picks live from the stage on day 3? Will the commish trot out there or will it be some intern who gets to read the name?

Roger needs to make some phone calls here and force someone to draft him early today, in exchange for some favors down the road.
Obvious choice is Dallas, who actually does have a need for a backup better than Andy Dalton or Cooper Rush. And it would be the perfect branding moment, and no team is better equipped to handle the soap opera, and when Roger pays back the favor nobody will bat an eye. Only two problems. First, Jerry Jones is actually a very smart drafter and second, Dallas has no fourth round pick, so they’d have to give up something.
Who then? There’s plenty of favors the league could hand out to Jacksonville, who wouldn’t even need to trade up, but would need some assistance in unloading the Trevor Lawrence contract. That one makes sense.
Kansas City? They don’t pick until late in the round, but maybe they would be game in exchange for a few more calls.
I think if I’m Roger, my first call is the Giants. They caused this mess, and if you promise to never put them on Hard Knocks again, they might bite.
Been thinking about this too much this morning.

I didn't have the audio up, but when I saw a shot of the Rams set-up identified as Van Nuys by an on-screen graphic, I thought they had rented a hangar at the Van Nuys airport to throw a draft party for responders.L-Jam3 wrote: Fri Apr 25, 2025 7:14 pmThis coming season will be the fifth year in a row that the Eagles and Chiefs will play a game with significance.
That’s a nice touch with the Rams having their war room at the LAFD rescue headquarters, btw.

The answer is they are doing an international theme to announce the picks today (maybe just this round). Someone in Luxembourg is going to get to read the name.Rex wrote: Sat Apr 26, 2025 6:01 am Do they even announce picks live from the stage on day 3? Struggling to figure out why JAX would want to replace Lawrence with Sanders, money disparity aside. Lawrence has shown he can be a very good NFL QB with some weapons around him.

Cleveland. Good spot for him. About 100 picks later than in most mock drafts. And 50 picks after the Browns selected Dillon Gabriel.

Kind of a feel good story for the Lions 3rd round pick (Issac TeSlaa) who grew up a Lions fan and has already won more championships at Ford Field than any other Lions (a HS state title)
(Though I’m wondering if Hutchinson’s HS won a state title when he was there. I’m not gonna look it up.)

Re: NFL Offseason/Draft 2025
But the fifth round is definitely looking more like "This is a league that literally black-balled a SB-caliber starting QB because he kneeled" level of collusion. IMO.

Re: NFL Offseason/Draft 2025
the ESPN talking heads looooove Sanders. Mel Kiper is about to have a stroke ranting about how the NFL doesn't know anything about QBs using the wonderful evidence of pointing out Brady getting picked in the 6th and Boomer Esasison in the 2nd. Guess he forgot about the 100s of failed QBs taken late which he called a steal of the draft for the 20 years. Back to Sanders, I don't get the drop unless there is something being unreported.

I thought Deion was pretty popular among his peers and teammates when he played and they're basically the front office people now.Nonlinear FC wrote: Sat Apr 26, 2025 1:38 pmBut the fifth round is definitely looking more like "This is a league that literally black-balled a SB-caliber starting QB because he kneeled" level of collusion. Re: NFL Offseason/Draft 2025
The simple explanation is that no team thinks he's an NFL starter, and nobody is willing to have him and the circus around him as a backup. The only way it might work is if he went to a team with an unchallengeable starter like Buffalo, Balt, KC, etc. It'll be a shitshow in Cleveland, and I love it.EdRomero wrote: Sat Apr 26, 2025 1:41 pm the ESPN talking heads looooove Sanders. Re: NFL Offseason/Draft 2025
I'm sorry, but I'm not buying the 5th round for a guy who helped turn a moribund program into at least respectable and led the entire college football landscape in passing efficiency, playing decent to high-level competition all year.
I do not buy that Deion had anything to do with this drop. Deion was well-liked and respected by every team he played for, including the Braves. Dude worked extremely hard and was a very good locker room guy. The idea that Deion was going to come in and micromanage a QB in an NFL locker room is absolutely ridiculous. He's the head coach of a D1 program, he literally doesn't have time for that level of nonsense.
To me, Shadeur likely had some shitty interviews that put some question remarks out there. And he was over-rated due to the typical pre-draft "This team needs XX and therefore this guy is going to go high because of that" misreading and hype that happens every year.
But that's gonna have him drop to the 2nd or 3rd... The fifth round is pretty ridiculous.
They are making an example of a guy who was the poster child for NIL changing the dynamics of college football and, by extension, the power dynamics of when they come into the league. He was cocky and had leveraged his NIL to become the guy with the cards at Colorado.
The owners are sending a message out of fear of not being in complete control of the power dynamics.

Re: NFL Offseason/Draft 2025
Just to add:
1) I never really liked Deion as a pro and I did not like the way he treated the existing rostered players when he showed up in Boulder. I'm by no means a Deion apologist, far from it.
2) Mel Kiper is fucking moron that says easily disprovable shit EVERY YEAR and yet we've been saddled with his nonsense for decades. He lives in the some fucking condo with Berman and Vitale as "icons" that the vast majority of those watching would love to jettison into the stratosphere.
I don't watch the draft because I find the exercise a massive time suck. But when I do drop in to check on things, the minute they flip over to him, I'm out.

Re: NFL Offseason/Draft 2025
Of course drafting players is a wildly inexact science. It will be very interesting to see how all the quarterbacks taken ahead of Sanders do at their respective teams, relative to how Sanders does.

Re: NFL Offseason/Draft 2025
It's (allegedly) this. The story (one of, at least) is that Shedeur was over-hyped because Deion is friends with everyone in team offices and the media since he worked for NFL Network and CBS. Everyone was afraid to criticize him (Shedeur). Yes, he was part of a group that turn around a shitty program but the talent level everywhere was improved. Even with the talent 4-8 then 9-4 with an Alamo bowl win is hardly evidence of 1st round talent.EdRomero wrote: Sat Apr 26, 2025 1:43 pm I thought Deion was pretty popular among his peers and teammates when he played and they're basically the front office people now.

People are freaking out about Milroe going ahead of him....Milroe is unlikely to hit but if he does he has legit MVP potential. I don't see that in Sanders. He's like an even more skittish Kenny Pickett, so he'll fit in well.
